BLAST 48 INCH DC 3 BLADE CEILING FAN

The Domus BLAST 48 is a 1,220 mm three-blade DC ceiling fan with a 9-speed remote, reverse winter/summer mode, a tropical rating, and an optional 18 W LED light kit.

Why a DC motor is worth the difference

• ✅ 25 W at full speed against roughly 70–80 W for a comparable AC fan. Running eight hours a night through a summer, that gap is real.
• ✅ Nine speeds instead of three. An AC fan is switched between a few fixed taps; a DC fan is genuinely variable, so the lowest setting is a barely perceptible drift rather than “low”.
• ✅ Quieter at low speed, which is what most people actually want overnight.
• ⚠ A DC fan needs its receiver. Speed is controlled electronically rather than by a wall switch, so the remote (or a compatible wall controller) is part of the system, not an accessory. ⚠ Its warranty is shorter than the fan's — see below.

Three blades at 48 inches, and what it moves

• 1,219 mm sweep, 14.5° blade pitch, 13,850 m³/h airflow.
• ✅ 48 inches suits a bedroom or a medium living room — roughly up to 4 × 4 m. For a larger room the 52-inch four-blade version moves more air (14,305 m³/h).
• ⚠ Three blades versus four is not simply "fewer". Three blades at the same pitch and speed move air slightly more efficiently and tend to be marginally noisier at high speed; four are smoother. At the speeds people actually use, the difference is small.
• ✅ Reverse winter mode pushes warm air down off the ceiling in winter at low speed — genuinely useful in a room with a high ceiling and a heater.

⚠ The warranty is two terms, not one

Our record shows 6 years. The datasheet reads:

⛔ That is not a six-year warranty. It is three years where Domus attends, followed by three years where parts are replaced but the labour is yours — and the electronics that make a DC fan work carry one year. ✅ We would rather set that out than let the summed figure stand, because the receiver is the part most likely to need attention.

The light kit is optional and separate

• An 18 W LED kit with 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K switchable from the remote, and dimmable from the remote.
• ⚠ Our record carries the light kit's colour temperatures and a colour-changing flag on the fan itself. The fan has no light unless you buy the kit.
• ✅ Colour and dimming from the remote rather than a dip switch is a real advantage — it is adjusted from the bed, not from a ladder.
• ✅ Tell us if you want the kit and we will quote them together, so the fan and the light arrive as one order.

Construction and rating

• ABS polymer motor housing, canopy and blades. ✅ Polymer blades do not warp with humidity the way timber can, and they are light, which is part of what lets a DC motor run so efficiently.
• Tropically rated — built for heat and humidity.
• ⚠ The datasheet gives IPX0, meaning no water protection. Tropical rating and weather rating are different things: this is an indoor or fully covered fan, not one for an exposed alfresco.
• ✅ An extension rod is available for high or raked ceilings — ask us, and tell us the ceiling height.

Where it works

• ✅ Bedrooms and medium living rooms, roughly up to 4 × 4 m.
• ✅ Rooms where quiet running at low speed matters — nine speeds, DC motor.
• ✅ Covered alfrescos and humid climates — tropically rated, polymer blades.
• ⛔ Not exposed positions — IPX0 means no water protection.
• ⛔ Not a light on its own — the kit is a separate purchase.
• ⚠ For a larger room, the 52-inch four-blade version moves more air.
