Step 1

What voltage does your lighting run at?

It is printed on the strip or fitting, and on its spec sheet. Getting this wrong is the one thing that will stop the light working, so pick “Not sure” rather than guess.

Step 2

How much is the driver powering?

Add up the wattage of everything on this driver. For LED strip, multiply the watts per metre by the number of metres — 9.6W/m over 5m is 48W.

Enter your total load and we will add headroom on top.
Step 3

Where is the driver going?

The driver, not the light. A driver mounted outside, in a garden bed or anywhere it can get wet needs a weatherproof rating.

Step 4

Will it be dimmed?

A driver has to be dimmable itself — a dimmer on a non-dimmable driver flickers, buzzes, or damages it.
