Wifi 2 Gang White, Black Wall Switch

This is a smart wall switch. It takes the place of a conventional mechanical switch in the wall and adds control from a phone or a voice assistant, without changing anything about the lights it operates.

That is the useful part: the switch is the one component every lighting circuit already has, so replacing it upgrades the whole circuit behind it. The fittings, the driver and the wiring all stay as they are.

How many circuits it controls

This is the 2-gang version, so it switches 2 separate circuits independently.

⚠ Count the circuits, not the lights. A single gang can switch a dozen downlights if they are wired as one circuit, and two lights on separate circuits need two gangs. Match the gang count to the switch you are removing.

How it connects

It works over WiFi.

WiFi control needs no hub - the unit joins the network directly, which makes it the simplest option to set up and the one that depends on your router staying reachable.

⚠ Every part of the chain has to speak the same protocol. Mixing systems is the most common reason a control setup does not respond as expected.

⚠ At IP20 this unit has no weather protection. It must be installed in a permanently dry indoor location.

Living with a smart switch

A smart switch has one advantage over every other kind of lighting control: it is still a switch. Whatever happens to the network, the app or the phone, somebody can walk up to the wall and press it - which is why replacing the switch is usually the safest way to make an existing circuit controllable.

⚠ Check that the manual press keeps working independently of the network before you rely on it. That is the property that makes the whole thing comfortable to live with, and it is not something to discover during an outage.

Set up shared access at the start. Control tied to one person's account becomes a problem the day that person is away, and retrofitting access is harder than granting it.

Installation

This unit connects to mains and must be installed by a licensed electrician. It fits a standard wall position, so in most cases it takes the place of an existing switch rather than needing new wiring.

⚠ Check the depth of the existing wall box before ordering. A smart switch carries electronics behind its face and needs more room than the mechanical switch it replaces - that is the most common reason one will not fit.

Decide where it goes before the walls are finished. A control wants to be where people reach for it - by the door they come in through, not the one the wiring happened to arrive at.
