The Utica CTC is a 480 mm low-profile close-to-ceiling light in white — integrated 40 W giving 2,750 lm, with 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K and TRIAC dimming, projecting only 50 mm.
⚠ If you are comparing the Utica with the Arema, they are effectively the same fitting.
| UTICA | AREMA | |
|---|---|---|
| Wattage | 40 W | 40 W |
| Output | 2,750 lm | 2,750 lm |
| Colour | 3000/4000/5000 K | 3000/4000/5000 K |
| Dimming | TRIAC | TRIAC |
| Projection | 50 mm | 50 mm |
| Material | Iron and acrylic | Iron and acrylic |
| Width | 480 mm | 500 mm |
| Canopy | 378 mm | 388 mm |
| Weight | 3.7 kg | 4 kg |
Every performance figure is identical. The Utica is 20 mm narrower and 300 grams lighter, and that is the whole difference. They are built on one LED platform, in two faces.
So choose on the look, and on nothing else — and if the two are priced differently, take the cheaper. Ask us and we will send photographs of both, because at this margin the shape of the face is the only thing that separates them.
Genuinely low-profile. Most ceiling fittings of this size project 60 to 120 mm; the Utica sits 50 mm off the ceiling, so it reads as a flush disc rather than an object hanging below the plane.
That matters in real positions:
69 lm/W — enough to be the only light in a living room, a large bedroom or a hallway run.
TRIAC dimming on an ordinary wall dimmer, across the full range — not fixed steps. At 2,750 lumens that is what lets one fitting be a working light at full and an evening one low.
The contrast worth knowing: the Thalia and Lyric oysters give three fixed steps — 100%, 50%, 20% — from the switch you already have, and need no dimmer at all. Better for a retrofit with no dimmer in the wall; less control. The Utica needs a dimmer and gives you every level in between.
3000 K warm for living rooms and bedrooms — right in most homes. 4000 K neutral for a kitchen, laundry or study. 5000 K cool for a garage or workshop.
⚠ Decide before the electrician leaves. Our record flags the Utica as colour changing, which overstates it — the setting is made at the fitting, at installation, and cannot be changed from a switch, an app or a remote. If you are fitting several through a house, set them all the same: a hallway at 4000 K opening onto a living room at 3000 is obvious every time you walk through.
(If you want colour you can change afterwards, ask us about the Corsa, whose three settings are switched from your ordinary wall switch.)
⚠ 3.7 kilograms sits flat against the ceiling. A close-to-ceiling mount puts the whole weight on the plate and the ceiling surface, with none of the relief a suspension gives — on plasterboard that needs a proper fixing. Tell your electrician the figure before the ceiling is opened.
The canopy is 378 mm on a 480 mm face, so on a replacement it covers most of what came off. The acrylic diffuser is what makes a 40 W array read as an even, seamless disc rather than a panel with visible dots. Class I — earth required, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only, so not a bathroom. CRI above 80.
480 mm across, projection 50 mm, canopy 378 mm, 3.7 kg, in iron and acrylic, white. Integrated 40 W LED giving 2,750 lm, included, with 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K set at installation, CRI >80, and TRIAC dimming across the full range. 240 V, Class I — earth required, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
Barely at all, and it is worth knowing before you spend time comparing. Every performance figure is identical — 40 watts, 2,750 lumens, the same three colour temperatures, the same TRIAC dimming, the same 50 mm projection, the same materials. The Utica is 20 mm narrower and 300 grams lighter, and that is the whole difference. Choose on the look, or on price, and ask us for photographs of both.
50 mm, where most ceiling fittings this size project 60 to 120. It reads as a flush disc rather than an object hanging below the ceiling plane, which matters on a low ceiling, in a hallway, above a door swing, under a bulkhead or in a garage with a roller door track.
Yes — 2,750 lumens covers a living room, a large bedroom or a hallway run.
The Utica is TRIAC dimmable across the full range on an ordinary wall dimmer. The Thalia and Lyric oysters give three fixed steps — 100%, 50%, 20% — from the switch you already have, needing no dimmer at all. The oysters are better for a retrofit; the Utica gives you every level in between.
No. Our record flags it as colour changing, which overstates it — the setting is made at the fitting during installation. If you want colour you can change afterwards, ask us about the Corsa, whose three settings are switched from your ordinary wall switch.

No — IP20, indoor and dry locations only. The Lunos squares are IP44 if you need one that can.
