A suggestion, not a specification. A calculator can get it wrong — have a licensed electrician confirm the driver, the total load and the wiring before you order.
The 5 W sits in the middle of the Toldo range, and its 30° tilt is the widest of the three. That matters more than the extra couple of watts. A recessed uplight aimed straight up washes whatever is directly above it; the useful work usually happens when you can lean the beam over onto the face of a wall, up the trunk of a tree set back from the fitting, or across a rendered pier. On this model you get the most room to do that, and a 30° beam tight enough to keep the light on the object rather than spilling past it.
Havit publishes its output as 450 lm at 3000K, 475 lm at 4000K and 500 lm at 5500K. Output rises with colour temperature on this model, so the coolest setting is the brightest and the warm setting is the dimmest — worth knowing before you set it, because it is the opposite of what a lot of people assume. The hole is Ø140 mm, which is a genuine step up from the 3 W and needs planning where paving or a mowing strip is involved.
Havit's instructions require adequate drainage to stop the fitting sitting in water, and void the warranty where none is provided: a 100 mm space beneath the canister, 100 mm to 150 mm of crushed rock below, and a slight decline on the finished ground so water runs away. The canister must finish level with the ground or the warranty is void, and silicone goes around the edge of the fitting once it is seated. IP67 covers temporary immersion, not permanent standing water.
This is a 12 V DC fitting run from a suitable 12 V DC LED driver. Do not connect it directly to 240 V. The voltage reaching the fitting must be within ±5% or the warranty is void — so check the input voltage of anything else you plan to share a driver with, and size the cable for the run rather than the fitting. Wiring is parallel, the fitting is polarity sensitive and reversing it causes a failure that is not covered, and the anti-syphon valve and male and female connector on the 300 mm tail must both stay in place for the warranty to hold. The LED is built-in, so there is no globe to buy and none to fail separately.
A 316 stainless steel cover over a black aluminium body. Havit requires regular cleaning on all 316 stainless fittings to prevent tea staining — the light brown surface bloom stainless develops when grime and salts are left on it — and excludes tea staining from the warranty outright. Its HV9971 maintenance kit is the recommended remedy. At Lights For You the HV1828T carries Havit's 3 Years Replacement warranty for items ordered after 01/01/2022, and the figures on this page come from the HV1828T data sheet and the Toldo installation instructions.
Work from the hole and the throw, not the wattage. The 5 W takes a Ø140 mm cutout, gives 450–500 lm and tilts 30° — the widest adjustment in the range. The 3 W is the compact one for a single shrub or a column; the 20 W is a different proposition entirely and runs on a different supply voltage, so it cannot share a driver with this one.
Havit's HV1828T data sheet gives Ø146 mm with the canister and Ø140 mm without. Cut to the canister actually supplied — the installation sheet directs you to take the hole from the line drawings that come with the fitting — and set the canister level with the finished ground, which is itself a warranty condition.
No. It is a built-in LED, so there is no globe and no socket. Havit gives the lamp expectancy as >30,000hrs and covers the fitting under a 3 Years Replacement warranty rather than supplying a spare light source.
No. Both the HV1828T data sheet and the Toldo installation instructions record Dimmable: No.
Havit rates it trafficable to 1000 kg, which covers foot traffic, mowers and a domestic car crossing it. That rating assumes the canister is bedded on crushed rock and level; it is not a rating for trucks or for repeated turning loads on the fitting itself.
A switch under a cap on the bottom of the fitting selects 3000K, 4000K or 5500K. It ships on 3000K. Set it before the fitting goes into the canister — reaching the switch afterwards means lifting the fitting back out.
Remove the four nuts on the back of the fitting, take off the cover and the glass, ease the head to the angle you want, then refit the glass, cover and nuts. Havit is specific that the seals must be back in place and the nuts tight, because that is what keeps the water out.
