The Thalia OY40 is a 400 mm round oyster with a teak wood finish — 24 W giving 1,575 lm, with switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 6000 K and three-step dimming from the wall switch you already have.
This is the middle of three, and the useful comparison is with the 500 mm.
50% more power buys 77% more light — so if the room can carry a 500 mm disc, the larger one is the better buy per lumen. The 400 mm is the right choice when 500 mm would be too large for the ceiling: bedrooms, studies, hallways and smaller living rooms.
Enough to be the only light in a bedroom, a study or a hallway, and enough for a modest living room. In a large open-plan space it will not carry the room alone — that is what the 500 mm is for.
At 66 lm/W it sits between its two siblings (52 and 77.5). The Thalia is one of only two ranges reviewed in this programme that gets meaningfully more efficient as it gets bigger — most give the same output at every size.
No dimmer, no new wiring. Flick the switch off and straight back on: 100%, 50%, 20%, then back to full.
In a bedroom that is the feature that matters most. A 1,575-lumen oyster at full is too much last thing at night; at 20% it is a soft general light. Most fittings need a dimmer and a spare wire in the wall to do that. This one needs the switch already on your wall.
3000 K, 4000 K, 6000 K, on a slide switch. Most switchable fittings here stop at 4000 K; 6000 K is true daylight, which suits a study or a craft room in a way warm white does not.
⚠ Choose it before the electrician leaves. Our record flags the Thalia as colour changing, and that overstates it: the setting is made once, at the fitting, at installation, and is fixed afterwards — not from a switch, an app or a remote.
1.5 kg, 60 mm from the ceiling — a flat disc rather than a bowl. The square Lyric OY40 is the identical light in a square body; the round forgives being a few degrees off centre where the square shows it.
IP20 — indoor and dry locations only, Class I — earth required, in wood, polycarbonate and metal — the metal was missing from our record. CRI above 80. Not a bathroom; the Lunos squares are IP44.
