The Stylin TL is a 480 mm table lamp with a textured fabric drum shade on a wood-look base — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, on 1.8 metres of flex.

It plugs into a power point. Our page said it “must be installed by a licensed electrician”. It has 1.8 metres of flex and is Class II double insulated. Fit a globe and plug it in. Removed.

✅ Credit where it is due. The Stylin is sold as a “Walnut” finish, and its own description says plainly that the base is “sturdy iron finished in a warm, painted wood look”.

That is honest, and only one other product in this catalogue does it — the Estova. Several other “Walnut” and “Oak” products leave you to assume timber.

So: this is a painted iron lamp with a convincing timber finish, which is a perfectly good thing to be. It is consistent piece to piece, and it will not mark, dry out or move the way real wood can. If you specifically want real timber, ask us — the Jacona's base genuinely is wood.

The textured drum shade

A 300 mm drum in textured fabric, and the texture is doing something:

  • Opaque fabric means the globe is completely hidden and light goes up and down, not sideways — a defined pool below and a wash on the ceiling, with no glare at eye level.
  • Texture gives the shade surface interest by day, when a smooth shade is simply a smooth cylinder. On a deliberately plain lamp, that is where the character sits.
  • A drum shape — straight-sided rather than tapered — is the contemporary choice, and it throws a wider, more even pool than a tapered shade of the same width.
480 mm — and how it compares with its sibling

There are two wood-look table lamps in this catalogue, and they are for different jobs:

The Estova reaches out over a chair or a desk; the Stylin stands straight, so it lights its own surroundings — a bedside table, a sideboard, a console. The Stylin is also the quieter of the two: no arm, no gold, no fluting, just a timber-look column and a textured shade. On a bedside table where you want the lamp to recede, that is the right choice.

The globe is hidden, so the choice is simple

One E27 to 25 W, not supplied. Nothing shows through the fabric, so brightness and warmth are the only decisions. Use warm 2700 K — against a warm wood-look finish, cool white reads grey and undoes the whole point of the base.

Dimming depends on the globe. Our record says “No”; the datasheet and the page both say globe dependent, and they are right. On a plug-in lamp that needs an inline or plug-in dimmer — and beside a bed, that is most of what makes a lamp useful. Ask us and we will match the pair.

⚠ 1.73 kg is reasonable for a 480 mm lamp — heavier than the 1.36 kg Fusell and the 1.07 kg Mosari, lighter than the 2.5 kg Estova and well under the 6.1 kg Vybor. Fine on a bedside table or a sideboard; if it is going somewhere with real traffic, ask us about a heavier lamp.

Class II — double insulated, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only, in iron and fabric. Shade 300 mm wide by 200 mm high.

Questions
Is the base real walnut?

No — it is iron finished in a warm, painted wood look, and to its credit the lamp’s own description says so plainly. Only one other product here does that, the Estova. It is a perfectly good thing to be: consistent piece to piece, and it will not mark, dry out or move the way real wood can. If you specifically want real timber, ask us about the Jacona.

Do I need an electrician?

No. It has 1.8 metres of flex and is double insulated — fit a globe and plug it in. Our page said otherwise, which was wrong.

How does it compare to the Estova?

They are for different jobs. The Estova has an arched arm with a 340 mm reach, so it leans out over a chair or a desk; the Stylin stands straight and lights its own surroundings. The Stylin is also the quieter of the two — no arm, no gold, no fluting — which on a bedside table where you want the lamp to recede is the right choice.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
