Sorens Table Lamp Large

The Sorens TL20 is a bamboo-shaded table lamp on an iron base in brown or natural — 230 mm tall, taking one E27 globe to 25 W, with a 1.8 m cord and a plug.

⚠ The “large” is shorter than the “small”

This is worth saying plainly, because it is not what anyone would assume:

• TL20 — the “large”: 230 mm high, 0.7 kg.
• TL17 — the “small”: 290 mm high, 0.7 kg.

The small is 60 mm taller, and the two weigh the same to the gram. The likeliest reading is that 20 and 17 are shade diameters in centimetres — so the “large” is the wider, lower, broader-shouldered lamp and the “small” is the narrower, taller one. That is a real difference in character, and it is the opposite of what the names suggest about height.

What a bamboo shade actually does

This is the reason to buy a Sorens rather than a fabric-shaded lamp:

• Light passes through the weave, so the shade itself glows and throws a fine textured pattern onto the wall behind it. A fabric shade diffuses; a woven one patterns.
• It warms the light as it passes, so even a neutral globe reads golden.
• ⚠ It is not a reading lamp. A woven shade leaks light in every direction rather than aiming it down — buy it for atmosphere and for the wall behind it.

Choosing the globe — it is not supplied

One E27 (large screw) globe to 25 W maximum, and none is included, which our old page did not say.

• Warm 2700 K — bamboo is a warm material and a cool globe fights it.
• A frosted or opal globe for a soft, even glow through the weave.
• A clear filament globe for a sharper shadow pattern on the wall — more dramatic, and the globe becomes visible through the weave from some angles.
• ⚠ Dimming is globe dependent: the lamp has no dimmer of its own, so it dims only if you fit a dimmable globe and plug it into a dimming circuit or an in-line dimmer.

• Scandi, Japandi and coastal interiors, alongside timber and linen.
• Against a plain wall, where the woven shadow pattern shows.

230 mm high, 0.7 kg, cord 1,800 mm with a plug; ⚠ width is not recorded — the “20” is read as a 200 mm shade diameter, not quoted. In bamboo and iron, brown or natural. One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied; dimming is globe dependent. 240 V, Class II — double insulated, no earth, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. No electrician needed. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
