The Sarnel EX2 is a 64 mm cylindrical up-and-down exterior wall light in a corten rust finish — two GU10 globes to 6 W each, not supplied, IP54, at 180 mm tall and 0.5 kg.
⚠ The globes are not supplied, and on an up-down fitting the beam angle IS the effect. No source said a word about it.
An up-down cylinder throws two cones of light along the wall, and what those cones look like is decided entirely by the GU10s you buy:
Ask us and we will match a pair.
The Sarnel is finished in corten, the rust-orange of weathered steel. That is not a fault or a fashion: corten is the established language of contemporary Australian garden design — planters, edging, screens and retaining walls are routinely specified in it.
So a corten light fitting belongs in that setting in a way a black or stainless one does not: it reads as part of the landscaping rather than hardware attached to it. It also sits well against timber, stone, render and planting, which is most of what a garden is made of.
⚠ A note on the finish options. Our page says the Sarnel is “available in brass or rust finishes”. Only the rust (corten) is stocked. If you want the brass, ask us — and note the Walsh up-down is made in solid brass at IP65, which may be the better answer anyway.
64 mm wide, 180 mm tall, projecting 95 mm, at 0.5 kg. That is among the smallest and lightest exterior fittings in this catalogue, and it opens up positions the bigger lanterns cannot use:
⚠ IP54 — so a sheltered position. IP54 is protection against splashing water, not jets or driving rain. Under an eave, a porch, a verandah or a protected facade — yes; a fully exposed wall taking wind-driven rain — no.
That is worth taking seriously on an up-down, because the top aperture faces the sky. For exposed or coastal walls, ask us about the Walsh (IP65, solid brass or 316 stainless) or the Terin (IP65, low voltage).
Two GU10 to 6 W each — 12 W total, not supplied. (Our record held 6 W against the whole fitting, halving it; the page had “2 × 6 W” correctly.)
It dims, with the right globes. The datasheet says globe dependent, which is right — there is nothing in a fitting holding two GU10s to prevent it. On an up-down, dimming is genuinely useful: at full it is a wall-lighting fitting, low it becomes a pair of quiet markers along a facade.
⚠ And one correction: our record flags the Sarnel as a colour-changing fitting. It cannot be — it holds two twist-lock GU10 globes and contains no integrated LED, no driver and no control of any kind.
Class I — earth required, hard-wired, so a licensed electrician installs it. Canopy 50 mm on a 64 mm body — almost the full width, so on a replacement check what marks are behind, because there is very little plate to cover them. In aluminium and glass.
64 mm wide by 180 mm high, projection 95 mm, canopy 50 mm, 0.5 kg, in aluminium and glass, corten rust finish. Two GU10 globes to 6 W each — 12 W total, NOT supplied; dimming is globe dependent. 240 V, Class I — earth required, IP54 — splash-rated; sheltered positions. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
Two narrow-beam GU10s — around 24 to 36 degrees — in warm 2700 K, outdoor-rated, bought together. On an up-down fitting the beam angle is the effect: narrow gives two tight defined triangles with crisp edges, which is the look this fitting is drawn for, while a wide flood spills into a soft wash that meets in the middle and loses the shape entirely.
Against corten, warm light brings out the orange in the finish. Cool white turns it brown and dead.
Not as stocked — our page says brass or rust, and only the rust corten is available. Ask us, and note that the Walsh up-down is made in solid brass at IP65, which may be the better answer anyway.

No. IP54 is protection against splashing water, not jets or driving rain — and that matters on an up-down, because the top aperture faces the sky. Under an eave, porch or protected facade, yes. For exposed or coastal walls ask us about the Walsh at IP65 or the Terin.

No, and our record is wrong to flag it as colour changing. It holds two twist-lock GU10 globes and contains no integrated LED, no driver and no control of any kind.
