The Rana TL50 is a ø500 mm table lamp with a hand-woven rattan shade in a teardrop form, on a white iron base.

Hand-woven, and the shadows are the product

This is what you are buying. The rattan is woven by hand, so light escapes between every strand — and when it is on, the lamp throws a pattern of textured shadow across the wall and ceiling around it. It stops being a lamp that lights a table and becomes a lamp that changes the surface behind it. A moulded or printed shade cannot do that, and no two woven shades cast quite the same pattern.

The teardrop form

Wider at the base, drawing in toward the top — so the widest, brightest band of pattern falls low, around the surface the lamp stands on, rather than up at eye level. That is why a large woven shade works on a side table without dominating the room.

ø500 mm is genuinely large

Half a metre across on a 600 mm-tall lamp. This is a statement piece, not a bedside lamp — a console, a sideboard, a wide side table. Measure the surface first: it needs room around it for the shadow pattern to read.

Natural shade, white base

The variant is labelled “White”, which is the base — the shade is natural rattan. White iron underneath keeps the composition light and stops the lamp reading as heavy beneath a large shade.

Plug in and use it — but it needs assembling

Class II, double insulated, no earth required, on an 1,880 mm cable. Assembly is required and instructions are in the box — worth knowing before it arrives.

Caring for rattan

Telbix’s own instruction, which never reached the old page: wipe clean with a dry cloth, and do not use strong liquid cleaners. Natural fibre and wet chemicals do not mix — it is the one thing that will ruin the shade.

One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied

A clear globe gives the sharpest shadow pattern through the weave; a frosted one softens it. That choice genuinely changes the effect, so it is worth thinking about.
