Rana 50 Rattan Table Lamp Black

The Rana TL50 in black or brown — a ø500 mm hand-woven rattan table lamp in a teardrop form, on an iron base.

Stained rattan changes the light, not just the colour

This is the real difference from the natural version. Natural rattan is pale, so light passes through the weave freely and the shadow pattern is bright and open. Black and brown rattan are darker — less light escapes through the strands, so the shade reads as a solid textured form with light escaping in sharper, more defined lines. The pattern is more graphic and the lamp is quieter. Same object, genuinely different effect.

Black or brown

• Black — the most graphic. Against a pale wall it is a strong silhouette by day and a sharp pattern by night.
• Brown — warmer and closer to natural timber, so it settles into a room rather than punctuating it.

Hand-woven, so the pattern is yours alone

The rattan is woven by hand and no two shades cast quite the same shadow. On a lamp whose entire subject is the pattern it throws, that is the point.

The teardrop puts the pattern low

Wider at the base, drawing in toward the top — so the brightest band of pattern falls around the surface the lamp stands on, not up at eye level. That is what lets a half-metre shade sit on a side table without dominating.

Large — measure first

ø500 mm on a 600 mm lamp, base ø245 mm. A console, sideboard or wide side table — and it wants wall behind it for the shadow to land on.

Plug in and use it

Class II, double insulated, no earth required, on an 1,860 mm cable. No electrician.

One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied

On the darker weaves a clear globe matters more than on the natural — it is what keeps the escaping light sharp rather than muddy. Wipe clean with a dry cloth; no strong liquid cleaners.
