Rana 30Cm Table Lamp Small

The Rana TL30 is a hand-woven rattan table lamp with a teardrop shade in black, brown or natural — a 300 mm shade on a 505 mm-tall lamp, taking one E27 globe to 25 W, with a 1.8 m cord and plug.

What the woven shade actually does — this is the whole point

A Rana is bought for the shadows, not for the light:

• The rattan is woven, not solid, so light escapes through hundreds of gaps and throws a pattern across the ceiling, the wall and the table. Lit, the room around the lamp becomes textured.
• The teardrop shape throws that pattern upward and outward as well as down, so it works best where there is a wall or a ceiling close enough to catch it. In the middle of a large open room, most of the effect is lost.
• ⚠ For the same reason, it is not a reading lamp. It lights the room, not the page.

The globe decides how dramatic it is

One E27 (large screw) globe to 25 W, and none is supplied — which our old page did not say. On this lamp the globe choice changes the result more than on almost anything else:

• A clear filament globe — a small, bright point source, so the woven pattern lands sharp and graphic. This is the dramatic choice, and what the lamp is designed for.
• A frosted or opal globe — a larger, softer source, so the pattern lands diffuse and gentle. Calmer, and better in a bedroom.
• Warm 2700 K either way. Rattan is a warm honey material and a cool globe makes it look grey.
• ⚠ Dimming is globe dependent — there is no dimmer in the lamp, so it dims only with a dimmable globe on a dimming circuit or an in-line dimmer.

Small, medium, and the rest of the family

This is the small; the TL40 is the medium, with a 400 mm shade on a 555 mm body. The difference is mostly in the width — only 50 mm in height separates them — so choose on how much table you have, not on how tall you want it.

The Rana is also made as a pendant and a floor lamp, and the shades match. A pendant over a table with a Rana lamp on a sideboard is a genuinely good pairing, and one of the few ways to repeat a texture in a room without it looking accidental. Ask us.

505 mm high with a 300 mm shade (the “30 cm” in the name is the shade), 1.65 kg, cord 1,800 mm with a plug. In hand-woven rattan on an iron base, black, brown or natural. One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied; dimming is globe dependent. 240 V, Class II — double insulated, no earth, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. No electrician needed. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
