Quadru Square Black TRI Colour Up & Down LED Wall Light

The Quadru is the square, slightly larger cousin of the small up-and-down wall lights, and it is chosen for two reasons: the crisp square shape reads as architectural on a rendered wall, and it takes replaceable GU10 globes. Two tri-colour globes are in the box. That means the colour temperature is a decision you can change later with a screwdriver rather than one you are locked into, and it means the fitting outlives its light source instead of being thrown away with it.

The IP54 rating decides the position

IP54 protects against splashing water. It is not a rating for driving rain, and the Quadru is not a fitting to put on a wall that is open to the sky. Under an eave, in a covered entry, along a roofed alfresco or in a carport it will last; on an exposed western wall it will eventually take water into the globe cavity. That is the single most common reason an outdoor wall light fails early, and it is entirely a positioning decision.

Where it works

• Either side of a covered front door, throwing a symmetrical up-and-down wash.
• Along a verandah or porch wall, spaced to graze render, brick or timber cladding.
• Roofed alfresco walls and outdoor kitchens, lifting the ceiling and lighting the bench.
• Carports and covered walkways, where the square profile suits a modern facade.

Specifying it

240 V AC, no driver, Class 1 — the earth is connected first and it is an electrician's job. The two supplied 5 W GU10 globes give the fitting 10 W in total and 540 lm at 3000K, 570 lm at 4000K or 600 lm at 5500K; Havit publishes those per head as 270, 285 and 300 lm. To change colour temperature you loosen the allen screws at the top and bottom, take the caps off, twist each globe out, slide the switch on its side and refit. The socket takes up to 35 W per globe. Aluminium body, clear glass, IP54, IK08, and a 3-year replacement warranty on the fitting.

Installing it so the warranty survives

Seal the base plate — every hole, the cable entry and around the screws — then run silicone around the edge of the fitting once it is up. Havit requires all o-rings and seals to be seated to maintain the warranty, and it excludes aluminium fittings installed within 5 km of salt water. Do not exceed the globe wattage marked on the fitting.
