Polano Table Lamp Small

The Polano TLS is a 405 mm table lamp on a travertine and iron base with a 220 mm fabric shade — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied — in beige, on 1.8 metres of flex.

Travertine — and the record said “iron”

The base is travertine: natural limestone, quarried, formed by mineral springs, carrying visible pores and banding that vary through the piece. Our product record listed “Iron” alone, losing both the stone and the fabric shade.

It matters more on the small lamp than on the large one. At 405 mm on a bedside table the base is at arm's reach and eye level — you see the pores and you touch the stone. A stone-look moulding would be obvious at that distance; real travertine is not.

2.5 kilograms on a bedside table

That is heavy for a lamp this size, and it is the point. It will not tip when you reach across it half asleep, and it will not slide when the flex is pulled — where the woven and metal-based lamps elsewhere in this range weigh under a kilogram and do both.

405 mm tall, 220 mm shade — the bedside proportion

The smaller Polano, and the one for bedside tables, shelves and side tables. The 220 mm shade, 180 mm deep, gives a contained pool rather than a wide wash: enough to read by, not enough to light the whole room, which is exactly right beside a bed. The 555 mm version is the one for a console or sideboard.

The fabric shade, and the globe behind it

Fabric, so light goes up and down rather than sideways and the globe is hidden completely — brightness and warmth are the only decisions. A warm 2700 K E27 suits the beige and the stone.

Where it works

• Bedside tables — heavy, stable, and a contained pool to read by.
• Shelves and side tables, where 405 mm fits.
• In pairs, either side of a bed — the stone varies, so they will not look machine-matched.
• ⚠ Not enough light for a whole room — buy the 555 mm for a console.
• ⚠ Dimming needs an inline or plug-in dimmer.

405 mm high, shade 220 mm wide by 180 mm high, flex 1,800 mm, 2.5 kg, in travertine, iron and fabric, beige. One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied; dimming is globe dependent and needs an inline or plug-in dimmer. 240 V, plug-in — no electrician required, Class II — double insulated, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
