Poetix Floor Lamp

The Poetix FL is a 1,570 mm floor lamp with stacked-sphere detailing and a 350 mm ivory shade — glossy beige or matt gold — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, on 2 metres of flex.

Stacked spheres — and the two finishes are not the same kind of finish

The stem is built from stacked spheres rather than a plain column, and that shape is what the finish acts on:

• Glossy beige — a reflective surface on a run of curves, which produces a bright highlight on every sphere and a line of them running up the lamp. It reads polished and glamorous, and it moves as you walk past.
• Matt gold — the same shape without the highlights, so the spheres read as form and shadow rather than reflection. Warmer, quieter, and closer to a sculptural object than a decorative one.

That is a bigger difference than a colour swatch suggests, and our specification table flattened it to a single word, “Gloss”.

1.57 metres tall, with a 350 mm shade

On a 205 mm base, at 3.62 kg. At this height the bottom of the shade sits above a seated head, which is where a reading lamp should be: light comes down over the shoulder onto the page rather than into the face.

The 350 mm ivory shade is wide and opaque, so light goes up and down, not sideways — a broad soft pool below and a wash on the ceiling, with the globe completely hidden.

The globe is hidden, so the choice is simple

One E27 to 25 W, not supplied. Nothing shows through the shade, so brightness and warmth are the only decisions. Use warm 2700 K — especially against matt gold, where cool white reads green.

Poetix comes as a table lamp, this floor lamp and two pendant sizes, all with the same stacked-sphere detailing and ivory shades. That is unusually complete, and it means a room can carry one idea at three heights without repeating a fitting.
