Pira 85 Pinhole LED Downlight Dimmable

The Pira DL85 is an 85 mm pinhole recessed downlight in white — 10 W giving 500 lm at 3000 K, CRI above 90, TRIAC dimmable, with a 24° beam and a 75 mm cutout.

Pinhole — a tiny aperture, and that is the whole product

A pinhole downlight puts the LED deep inside the fitting behind a very small opening. From the room you see almost no fitting at all — a dark aperture in the ceiling that lights something below it — and crucially you cannot see the source from any normal angle. In a bedroom, a gallery wall or anywhere people look up, that is the difference between a comfortable ceiling and a row of bright spots.

A 24-degree beam — this is a spot, not a general light

Most general downlights spread 60 degrees or more. The Pira is 24° — narrower even than the 36° Sova and Brex fittings in this range. That produces a tight, defined pool, which is exactly right over artwork, a basin, a bench edge or a feature, and wrong as a room’s general lighting unless you space them very closely indeed. Say the beam angle to your electrician before they set out.

CRI above 90, on a fitting designed to be looked past

Above 90 where most downlights sit at 80 — and on a pinhole that pairing makes sense: the entire point is that you look at what it lights rather than at it, so the colour accuracy of the light matters more than usual. Timber, artwork, food and fabric hold their real colour.

75 mm cutout, 60 mm depth

An 85 mm face over a 75 mm hole — a 5 mm overlap all round. Depth above the ceiling is only 60 mm, which is shallow and lets it into tight voids where deeper fittings will not go. It is IC-4, so it may be covered by ceiling insulation, with surge protection built in at 240 mA.

IP44 from the room side

Our record said simply IP44. The datasheet is more precise: IP44 (room side) — the visible face is splash-protected, so it suits a bathroom ceiling outside the shower zone, while the back of the fitting in the ceiling void is not weather-rated. The normal arrangement for a recessed bathroom downlight, and the wording matters to your electrician.
