The Pedral EX23 is a 230 mm traditional coach lantern in black or bronze with textured glass — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, IP44, projecting 280 mm.
⚠ It stands 280 millimetres off the wall. Plan for that first. That is far deeper than most — the Farnix reaches 254 mm, the Cosca 170, the Mazal 75. (The Ramiro EX25 coach lantern is deeper still at 350 mm, if you want more reach.)
Nearly 30 centimetres of reach is the point of a coach lantern: it holds the light out over a doorway or a path rather than flat against the wall, which is how the type has always worked. But it also means:
At 3.5 kg on a 280 mm reach, the fixing also takes real leverage, not just dead weight. Tell your electrician both figures.
All four Pedrals take the same single E27 globe to 25 W. The 230 mm gives no more light than the 180 mm — the lantern simply grows. Choose the large one because 230 mm is the proportion the entry needs, not for output. If you want more light, use two lanterns or a brighter globe, not a bigger body.
The glass is textured, which sits between the two extremes in this catalogue: it is not clear like the Provo, where the globe is fully exposed, and not opal like the Gorem, where it is completely hidden. Textured glass breaks up and scatters the source, so you see a softened, distorted shape of the globe rather than a sharp filament.
That means the globe still matters, and no source said a word about it. One E27 to 25 W, not supplied:
Ask us and we will match one.
Nearly every outdoor light in this range has a sealed integrated LED: when the diode fails, the fitting is finished. The Pedral takes a standard E27, so you choose the output and colour, and you can replace it in ten years — on a traditional lantern meant to sit beside a door for decades, that matters.
It also dims, with the right globe. Our record says “No”; the datasheet and our own page both say globe dependent, and they are right. On a lantern with a visible warm core, dimming is the best thing you can do for how it looks after dark.
IP44 — and our page gets this right, saying “Outdoor (Covered Area)”. IP44 is splashing water from any direction, not driving rain or jets: under a porch, a verandah or a deep eave — yes; a fully exposed or coastal wall — no. For those, ask us about the Walsh (IP65, solid brass or 316 stainless).
Backplate 140 mm on a 230 mm fitting, so on a replacement it may not cover the marks left behind — measure first. Class I — earth required, in aluminium and glass.
230 mm wide by 540 mm high, projection 280 mm, backplate 140 mm, 3.5 kg, in aluminium and textured glass, black or bronze. One E27 globe to 25 W, NOT supplied, replaceable; dimming is globe dependent. 240 V, Class I — earth required, IP44 — covered outdoor positions. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
280 mm — far deeper than most, where the Farnix reaches 254 mm and the Cosca 170. The Ramiro EX25 is deeper still at 350 mm. That reach is the point of a coach lantern, holding the light out over a doorway rather than flat against the wall, but check it clears the door swing and architrave, and do not put it at head height along a path.
No — all four Pedrals take the same single E27 to 25 W. The lantern grows; the light does not. Choose the large one because 230 mm is the proportion the entry needs, and if you want more light use two lanterns or a brighter globe.
A decorative LED filament — globe or ST64 shape — rated for enclosed fittings, in warm 2700 K. The textured glass softens and distorts the source rather than hiding it, so a bare white capsule shows as a hard bright blob. Enclosed-rating matters because this is a sealed lantern and heat with nowhere to go kills LED globes.
Yes, with a dimmable globe. Our record says “No”; the datasheet and our page both say globe dependent, and they are right. On a lantern with a visible warm core it is the best thing you can do for how it looks after dark.
No — IP44 is splashing water from any direction, not driving rain or jets. Under a porch, verandah or deep eave, yes. Our page has this right, saying “Outdoor (Covered Area)”. For exposed or coastal positions ask us about the Walsh at IP65.
A substantial one. 3.5 kg on a 280 mm reach puts real leverage on the fixing, not just dead weight — tell your electrician both figures.
Possibly not — the backplate is 140 mm on a 230 mm fitting. Measure what is on the wall first.
