Patino 40Cm Pendant Light

The Patino PE40 is a 400 mm glass sphere pendant in amber, smoke or green — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, on a 2,000 mm suspension.

What the bigger sphere does change

Two things, and both are about how the light looks rather than how much there is:

• The same globe inside a larger volume of tinted glass reads as softer and more diffuse — the source is further from the glass surface, so the tint has more depth to work through.
• At 400 mm the sphere becomes an object in the room rather than a point of light. It has presence when it is off, which the 200 mm does not.

Amber, smoke or green — a choice about light, not colour

All three are tinted, not frosted, so the globe stays visible and the glass colours the light on its way out. At 400 mm, with more glass to pass through, the effect of each tint is stronger than on the small sizes:

• Amber — adds warmth; the light reads candle-like and the sphere is bright and jewel-like when lit. The most flattering over a table.
• Smoke — cuts and cools; dimmer, restrained, and the sphere stays a dark object when off. At 400 mm that dark presence is considerable.
• Green — the most decisive, and at this size a serious commitment. It works where there is timber, brass or planting to answer it.

400 by 486 mm — and hang it above eye level

400 mm wide, 486 mm high, on a 120 mm canopy with 2,000 mm of adjustable drop.

Because the source is visible through tinted glass, a Patino at seated eye height across a table is uncomfortable to look at — and at 400 mm there is a lot of it to look at. Hang it above eye level: over a table at a proper height, in a stairwell, or in an entry with headroom.

Where it works

• Over dining tables, singly, at a proper hanging height.
• Stairwells and entries with headroom — an object as much as a light.
• Mixed with the smaller Patinos in a graduated run.
• ⚠ No brighter than the 200 mm — same globe.
• ⚠ The globe is visible — buy a decorative filament.

Specifying it

400 mm wide by 486 mm high, canopy 120 mm by 25 mm in black, suspension 2,000 mm and adjustable, in iron and tinted glass. Weight is not recorded — ask us. One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied and visible; dimming is globe dependent. 240 V, Class I — earth required, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
