The Orlin OY50 is a 500 mm LED oyster with a walnut-toned wood rim and black detail — 36 W giving 1,875 lm, with three colour temperatures and three brightness steps.
⚠ It is not dimmable, and you must not buy a dimmer for it. Our old page called it “dimmable via a wall switch”, which reads as though a dimmer belongs on the circuit. It does not.
What it actually has is step switching: with the fitting on a normal wall switch, flicking that switch off and straight back on steps the brightness — 100% → 50% → 20% → back to 100%.
✅ The advantage: no dimmer to buy, no dimmer compatibility to worry about, and it works on the switch that is already there. ⚠ The limits: there are three levels and no in-between, and fitting a dimmer will not work and may damage the driver. Tell your electrician.
3000 K warm, 4000 K neutral or 6000 K daylight, chosen on a slide switch on the fitting itself before it goes up.
⚠ Decide before it is installed. The switch is on the fitting, so changing your mind afterwards means getting it down off the ceiling. ⚠ And our own product record only lists 3000 K and 6000 K — the 4000 K middle setting is missing from it, though the fitting has it. For most rooms 4000 K is the one you want.
Being straightforward about scale, because oysters are usually bought as a room's only light:
The Orlin comes in three sizes; this is the largest. Ask us if a smaller one suits the room better.
Most oysters are white or black plastic and disappear into a ceiling. The Orlin's walnut-toned rim reads as a piece of joinery rather than a light fitting, which is why it works in rooms where an oyster would normally look like a compromise. It sits well with timber floors, oak furniture, rattan and warm neutral paint. ⚠ Set it to 3000 K or 4000 K to keep the wood tone warm — 6000 K flattens it.
1.7 kg — a light fitting for a standard ceiling rose. IP20, indoor and dry only — so not a bathroom or a covered outdoor area. Class I — earth required, CRI above 80, in wood, polycarbonate and metal. The LED is integrated, so there is no globe to replace.
⚠ The 500 mm in the name is the diameter, and our dimension record holds only the weight — so treat 500 mm as the width and ask us for the depth if ceiling height is tight.
500 mm diameter (from the model name; our record holds no dimension but the weight), 1.7 kg; ⚠ depth is not recorded — ask us. In wood, polycarbonate and metal, walnut tone with black. Integrated 36 W LED giving 1,875 lm, CRI >80, with 3000 K / 4000 K / 6000 K on a slide switch at the fitting and three-step brightness (100% / 50% / 20%) from the ordinary wall switch — NOT a dimmer, and do not fit one. 240 V, Class I — earth required, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No — and it matters. Our old page called it "dimmable via a wall switch", which reads as though a dimmer belongs on the circuit. It does not: fitting one will not work and may damage the driver. What the fitting has is step switching — with it on a normal wall switch, flicking that switch off and straight back on steps the brightness 100% to 50% to 20% and back. Tell your electrician.
Off and straight back on at the ordinary wall switch, and it steps to the next level: 100%, then 50%, then 20%, then back to 100%. No dimmer to buy and no compatibility to worry about — but three levels and nothing in between.
4000 K for most rooms — crisp without being cold, and right for kitchens, hallways, laundries and studies. 3000 K for bedrooms and living rooms, and it suits the wood rim best. 6000 K is a strong daylight white: good in a garage or workshop, too cold for most living spaces, and it will make the walnut rim look grey. Note our own product record lists only 3000 K and 6000 K — the 4000 K middle setting is missing from it, though the fitting has it.
Before it goes up. The selector is a slide switch on the fitting itself, so changing your mind afterwards means getting it back down off the ceiling.
1,875 lumens is comfortable as the only light in a bedroom, hallway, study, laundry or small living room up to roughly 12 m². In a large open-plan living or dining area a single Orlin will light the middle and leave the edges dim — use two, pair it with lamps, or ask us about a higher-output fitting.
No. It is IP20, indoor and dry locations only, so it is not for a bathroom or a covered outdoor area. Ask us about the IP44 oysters in this catalogue.
The 500 mm in the name is the diameter. Our dimension record holds only the 1.7 kg weight and no depth, so if ceiling height is tight, ask us and we will get the depth from Telbix. The Orlin also comes in two smaller sizes.
