The Orlin OY42 is a 420 mm oyster ceiling light with a walnut-toned wood rim — 24 W giving 1,270 lm, with switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 6000 K and three-step dimming from the wall switch you already have.
It dims from an ordinary wall switch. No dimmer, no new wiring. This is what our page was cut off before explaining, and it is the best thing about the Orlin. Flick the switch off and straight back on and the light steps down:
Then back to full. Our record said only “Dimmable: Yes”, which sounds like it needs a dimmer. It does not. For a retrofit — replacing an old oyster in a hallway, a bedroom or a laundry — that means dimming without touching the switch plate, the wiring or the wall. Very few ceiling fittings can say that.
3000 K, 4000 K, 6000 K, set on a slide switch at installation. Note the top end: most switchable fittings in this range stop at 4000 K. The Orlin goes to 6000 K — true daylight, which is genuinely useful in a laundry, a garage or a workshop where you need to see what colour something actually is.
None of the three appear in our record. It carries a colour-changing flag and no temperatures at all.
A walnut-toned wood rim around a polycarbonate diffuser, on a metal body. It is the reason to choose an Orlin over the white plastic oyster it replaces, and it does what a wood frame does: it reads warm even when the light is off, which matters on a fitting that sits in the middle of a ceiling all day.
⚠ 24 W giving 1,270 lm is 53 lumens per watt, which is low for an oyster — a plain white one at 24 W would give more. The wood rim and the diffuser absorb the difference. Practically: this is enough for a bedroom, a hallway, a laundry or a small living room, and not enough for a large open space on its own. Buy it for how it looks and for the switch dimming, and size it honestly.
The middle-sized Orlin — it comes in three sizes. At 420 mm it suits a room of roughly 3 by 3 metres to 4 by 4; smaller than that and it dominates the ceiling, larger and it looks lost. At 1.25 kg it goes onto a standard ceiling rose fixing.
It is Class I — earth required and IP20 — indoor and dry locations only, so not in a bathroom. A licensed electrician installs it. CRI above 80.
420 mm across, 1.25 kg, in wood, polycarbonate and metal — walnut tones and satin. Integrated 24 W LED giving 1,270 lm, included, with slide-switch 3000 K / 4000 K / 6000 K, CRI >80, and three-step dimming operated from an ordinary wall switch — 100% / 50% / 20%, no dimmer required. 240 V, Class I — earth required, IP20 — indoor and dry locations only. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No — that is the point of it. Flick your ordinary wall switch off and straight back on and the light steps down: 100%, then 50%, then 20%, then back to full. No dimmer, no new wiring, no change to the switch plate. Our record said only “Dimmable: Yes”, which makes it sound like it needs one.
3000 K, 4000 K and 6000 K, set on a slide switch at installation. The top end is unusual — most switchable fittings here stop at 4000 K, and 6000 K is true daylight, useful in a laundry, garage or workshop where you need to see what colour something actually is.
For a bedroom, hallway, laundry or small living room, yes. For a large open space on its own, no. 24 W giving 1,270 lm is 53 lm/W, which is low for an oyster — the wood rim and diffuser absorb the difference.
Roughly 3 by 3 metres up to 4 by 4. Smaller and it dominates the ceiling; larger and it looks lost. It comes in three sizes if this one is not right.
No — IP20, indoor and dry locations only.
Almost certainly — 1.25 kg goes onto a standard fixing, and it is designed as a retrofit for an old oyster on existing wiring.
Real wood in walnut tones, around a polycarbonate diffuser on a metal body. It reads warm even when the light is off, which matters on something that sits in the middle of a ceiling all day.
