The Oren CTC912 is a 120 mm surface-mounted LED downlight in black or white sand — 12 W giving 1,150 lm, switchable 2700 K / 3000 K / 4000 K, CRI above 92, TRIAC dimmable, IP54.
No cutout. No ceiling void needed. This is a surface-mounted downlight: it screws to the ceiling rather than dropping through a hole. That makes it the answer in the places a recessed downlight cannot go — concrete ceilings, rendered soffits, shallow voids, rentals, heritage ceilings you must not cut, and under eaves outside. Our page never made the point.
Most downlights in this catalogue record CRI 80. The Oren records above 92, and the difference is visible on skin, timber, food and fabric: at 80, reds go slightly grey and timber flattens; at 92 they do not. Over a kitchen bench, a bathroom mirror or an outdoor dining table, that is what you are paying for.
It also explains the numbers. 96 lumens per watt at CRI 92 is a better result than 120 lm/W at CRI 80, because high colour rendering is bought by giving up efficiency. The Oren gives up very little.
Our specification table gave “Width 90 mm, Height 120 mm”, which describes a narrow cylinder standing 120 mm off the ceiling. It is the other way round: 120 mm across, 90 mm deep.
Two things settle it. The 90 mm figure is identical on all three Oren sizes while the other varies 120 / 150 / 180 — and a size range of round downlights varies by diameter, not by how far it hangs down. And the model numbers carry the same figures: CTC912, CTC915, CTC918. Confirm with us before you set out a ceiling grid, and we will check it against the fitting in hand.
36° is a focused beam — a defined pool rather than a wash — so plan spacing accordingly: closer together than you would space a 60° fitting. At 1,150 lm the smallest Oren is a genuine working downlight, not an accent.
2700 K for bedrooms and living, 3000 K for most of a house, 4000 K for laundries, garages and task areas — selected on the fitting, so one product covers a whole job and the decision gets made in the room.
IP54 — splash-rated, so covered outdoor positions. Our page said it “fits just about anywhere—indoors or out”, which needs qualifying. IP54 is protected against splashing water, not against jets or wind-driven rain. So: under an eave, a verandah, a carport or a covered alfresco — yes. An exposed soffit taking horizontal rain — no.
TRIAC dimmable — an ordinary wall dimmer, which on a high-CRI fitting over a bench is worth having. It is Class I — earth required, at 0.43 kg.
120 mm diameter, 90 mm deep — our table had these reversed — at 0.43 kg, in aluminium, sand finish. Integrated 12 W COB LED giving 1,150 lm, included, with switchable 2700 K / 3000 K / 4000 K, CRI >92, 36° beam, TRIAC dimmable. 240 V, Class I — earth required, IP54 — splash-rated; covered positions, surface-mounted — no cutout required. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
Supplied and supported by Lights For You.
No. It is surface-mounted — it screws to the ceiling rather than dropping through a cutout, so it works on concrete ceilings, rendered soffits, shallow voids, rentals and heritage ceilings you must not cut, as well as under eaves outside.
120 mm across and 90 mm deep. Our specification table had those reversed, listing “Width 90 mm, Height 120 mm” — but the 90 mm is identical across all three Oren sizes while the other varies 120/150/180, and a range of round downlights varies by diameter. Confirm with us before setting out a ceiling grid.
Over a kitchen bench, a bathroom mirror or an outdoor dining table, yes. At CRI 80 — which most downlights here record — reds go slightly grey and timber flattens. At 92 they do not.
In covered positions. IP54 is protected against splashing water, not jets or wind-driven rain — so under an eave, verandah, carport or covered alfresco, yes; an exposed soffit taking horizontal rain, no.
Yes — TRIAC, an ordinary wall dimmer. On a high-CRI fitting over a bench that is worth having.
Closer than you would space a wide-beam downlight — the 36-degree beam gives a defined pool rather than a wash. Tell us your ceiling height and we will work the spacing through.
2700 K for bedrooms and living, 3000 K for most of a house, 4000 K for laundries, garages and task areas. It is set on the fitting at installation, so the decision gets made in the room.
