Opex 1200mm Dark Walnut Timber Dimmable Linear Pendant

The Opex is a 1200 mm walnut timber linear pendant — a single suspended bar of light for a dining table, an island bench or a boardroom, where the fitting is meant to be seen as much as the light it throws. Part number HV6013T, 20 W built-in LED, hung on an adjustable cable from a small black canopy.

Hanging it, and the decision you cannot undo

The suspension cable is 3000 mm and adjustable, which sounds forgiving and is only half true: Havit's installation sheet directs the electrician to "adjust cable length and cut off any excess" at step 4. The drop is therefore set once, with scissors, before the canopy goes up — so decide the height over the table first and hang it from the ceiling position you actually want, not from a temporary one. The mounting bracket is fixed to the ceiling first and the canopy pushes up over it and is locked with side screws, so the fixings are hidden once it is up.

Output, and which setting is brightest

A slide switch inside the canopy selects 3000K, 4000K or 5500K, and the fitting arrives preset to 3000K. Havit's ordering row measures 1600 lm at 3000K, 1800 lm at 4000K and 1700 lm at 5500K. The brightest setting is the middle one — not the coolest — so choosing 5500K over 4000K costs about 6% of the light rather than gaining any. Over a dining table that difference is invisible; the reason to move the switch is how the timber and the food look, and 3000K is the setting that suits walnut.

Beam, and why a 120° spread suits a long fitting

The beam is 120° behind a polycarbonate diffuser, so this is a broad, soft line of light rather than a row of pools. Hung about 750 mm above a table it lights the full width of a standard 900 mm top with no scallops on the surface, which is the point of a linear pendant over a set of separate spots. Glare is rated UGR <25 and colour rendering CRI >80, with colour consistency at SDCM <6.

Electrical

It runs on 240 V AC and is Protection Class 1, so an earth is required at the fitting; Havit's step 5 is explicit that the earth is connected first, then active, then neutral. It is Triac dimmable from an ordinary wall dimmer and Havit lists the HV9625 300 W LED Dial Dimmer as the matching accessory. Multiple fittings are wired in parallel. Installation is a licensed electrician's work under AS/NZS 3000.

Indoors only, and what the timber will do

The rating is IP20 with an IK05 body: no water rating at all, so this belongs over a table, not in a bathroom, not under an eave and not in a carport. The body is walnut timber with aluminium, and Havit states plainly that "variations in colour, grain, and natural markings are inherent to walnut timber and are not considered defects" — knots, mineral streaks and tone differences are the material, not a fault, and two pendants ordered together will not be identical.
