Noyer Walnut Coloured 420mm Oyster Light

At Ø420 mm the second Noyer is the size most people are actually looking for when they want a timber ceiling light: broad enough to hold a room on its own, still only 80 mm deep so it does not crowd a standard 2.4 m ceiling. The outer ring is real walnut over an aluminium chassis, with a polycarbonate diffuser doing the work in the middle.

What 35 W covers

It delivers 3,000–3,200 lm over a 120° spread — comfortably a main bedroom, a mid-sized living room, or a dining area where the table sits under it. As a rule of thumb, if the room is bigger than about 4 × 5 m or has a dark floor, look at the 510 mm body instead of adding a second fitting; one larger oyster gives a flatter, more even wash than two small ones fighting each other.

Living with a timber fitting

Walnut is a natural material, and Havit says so explicitly on the data sheet: colour, grain, texture and tone vary from piece to piece, and knots, mineral streaks and colour variation are inherent to it rather than defects. If you are buying two for a pair of bedrooms, expect them to be siblings rather than twins.

Colour temperature

Set once at installation from a switch inside the fitting — 3000K, 4000K or 5500K. The output is not a straight climb: 4000K is the brightest at 3,200 lm, 5500K gives 3,100 lm and 3000K gives 3,000 lm. In a room with the walnut on show, 3000K reads best against the timber and gives up almost nothing.

What the installation involves

There is no cutout and nothing to recess. The fitting itself is used as the template for marking the fixing holes and the cable entry, the supply comes through into a terminal block inside, and the cover comes off and back on by pressing the centre knob and twisting. It arrives as the fitting plus mounting screws, so the only thing to have ready on the day is a suitable fixing for the ceiling you are going into.

Rating, wiring and dimming

The Noyer is IP20, indoor only, and Protection Class 1 — an earth is required at the fitting, which is not the case on the polycarbonate oysters most electricians will have installed recently. It runs directly on 240 V AC with no driver to find a home for, is Triac dimmable against Havit's HV9625 300 W LED dial dimmer, and is rated IK05 with SDCM <6 and UGR <25. Warranty is 3 years replacement. Lights For You lists this size as both an oyster and a matching pendant, so the same 420 mm walnut ring can go flush to a bedroom ceiling and hang over a table in the next room.
