Nativa Table Lamp Large

The Nativa TLL is a 380 mm table lamp in iron and raffia — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied — in black, natural or white, on 1.8 metres of flex.

Raffia — and the record said “iron”

The shade is raffia, and it is the entire reason the Nativa looks the way it does. Raffia is a woven natural palm fibre, so the shade is open-textured rather than solid: the light does not just come out of the top and bottom, it comes through the weave, which gives a warm, broken, slightly dappled glow that a paper or fabric drum cannot produce.

It also means the shade is never quite uniform — the weave varies, so no two are identical. That is the point of a natural material, and it should be in the record.

380 mm tall, 320 mm across, 890 grams

The larger of the two Nativas. At 380 mm it has enough presence for a console, a sideboard or a wide bedside table, and at 0.89 kg it is light — which is worth knowing if it is going anywhere a door slams or a child passes.

The globe matters more than usual here

One E27 to 25 W, not supplied, and behind an open weave the globe is partly visible through the shade. Two consequences:

• Use a warm globe — 2700 K. A cool white through raffia looks wrong; the whole appeal is warmth.
• A frosted or opal globe rather than a clear filament, so the weave reads evenly rather than showing a hot spot.

Three finishes, and a smaller size

Black, natural or white. Natural is the raffia left as it is and the most obviously coastal; black turns the same weave into something graphic; white quietens it. The smaller Nativa is 330 mm tall and 230 mm across — note that it is stocked in black and white only, so if you want a matched pair in natural, this is the size to buy.
