Musan Square LED Step Wall Light

The Musan SQ.24 is an 84 mm square recessed step and wall marker in black sand aluminium — 24 V, 3 W, 18 lm at 3000 K, rated IP54.

⚠ 18 lumens — what that actually is

We would rather be plain about this than let you find out on site. 18 lumens is a marker, not a light.

• It shows you where the step is. It does not light the step.
• Walking a path lit by Musans, you see a line of soft glowing squares and the ground immediately at each one. You will not read by it and you will not find a dropped key.
• At 3 W for 18 lm the efficacy is 6 lm/W — far below every other fitting we have measured in this catalogue, and that is not a fault. A marker is deliberately shielded and deliberately dim, because the point is orientation without glare in the dark.

✅ Bought for what it is, it is excellent. Set into the risers of a flight of steps or the wall of a path, a line of these is what makes a garden navigable at night without floodlighting it. ⚠ Bought as a path light, it will disappoint you — ask us about the spike and bollard lights in this catalogue instead, which run to hundreds of lumens.

Spacing and placement

• On steps — one per riser on a short flight, or every second riser on a long one. Set them to one side, not centred, so the shadow of your own foot does not fall across the next tread.
• Along a path wall — 2 m to 3 m apart reads as a continuous guide; wider than that and it reads as scattered dots.
• Low — these belong at ankle to knee height. Mounted at eye level a marker is just a bright spot you look at.

IP54 — what it covers and what it does not

IP54: dust protected and shielded against splashing water from any direction.

• ✅ Rain, garden sprinklers and hosing down are fine.
• ⚠ It is not IP65 and not IP67. Do not set it where it will be hit by a pressure washer, where water pools against it, or anywhere it could be submerged — the bottom of a driveway that floods, a garden bed that holds water, or a pool surround.
• Because it is recessed, the detailing behind it matters: make sure the cavity drains and does not become a cup that holds water against the back of the fitting.

Where it works

• Step risers, path walls, retaining walls and low garden walls.
• Entries and driveways, as orientation rather than illumination.
• Indoors too — stair risers, a hallway skirting, a home cinema aisle.
• ⚠ You need a 24 V transformer, and it is not supplied. Tell us the quantity.
• ⚠ 18 lm is a marker. If you want to light a path, ask us about spikes and bollards.

Specifying it

84 × 84 mm face, 32 mm recess depth, 0.2 kg, in aluminium and polycarbonate, black sand. Integrated 3 W LED giving 18 lm at 3000 K, CRI >80, included, not dimmable. ⚠ 24 V DC — Class III, low voltage. A transformer is REQUIRED and is NOT supplied. IP54 — dust protected, splash resistant; not for pooling water or submersion. Warranty is three years, as a replacement warranty.
