Muovi Polycarbonate Large Oval Bunker Light

The large oval is the Muovi you fit when the small one is the right shape and the wrong amount of light. It is 193 mm long against the small oval's 157 mm, in the same 84 mm height and 40 mm depth, and it carries a 7 W LED instead of 5 W. That is roughly 40% more output in a fitting that still reads as the same discreet horizontal bar on the wall.

Where the extra length earns its keep

A door surrounded by dark brick, a laundry entry that doubles as the way you carry things in at night, an outdoor stair with more than a couple of treads — these are the places where the 5 W version is technically lit and practically dim. At 575 lm at 3000K, 630 lm at 4000K and 585 lm at 5500K this one puts usable light on the ground rather than only marking the wall. As with every tri-colour LED in this family, 4000K is the brightest of the three, so choose on the tone you want and not on an assumption that cooler means more.

Built like the rest of the range

Body and diffuser are both polycarbonate, with an opal PC lens spreading a 120° beam evenly across the face rather than concentrating it. There is no aluminium and no 304 stainless in the fitting, so there is nothing to chalk, pit or blister. Impact rating is IK04 — adequate for ordinary knocks, not a vandal-resistant fitting. CRI is above 80, UGR is under 29, and colour consistency is held to SDCM under 5, which is what stops a run of them looking mismatched.

Installing it

Supply is 240 V AC and the fitting is Protection Class 2, double-insulated with no earth required. Colour temperature is set on a slide switch at the back and it arrives preset to 3000K, so decide before it is on the wall. The connection rule is the one to pass to the electrician: the cable must be joined outside the fitting and sealed with adhesive-lined heat shrink or a gel cap, because Havit does not permit an internal joint and voids the warranty if one is made. Silicone the rim afterwards.

The LED is integral, so there is no globe and no driver, and the fitting is not dimmable. Rated life is over 30,000 hours, black and white are the same price, and it carries a 3-year replacement warranty.
