CRI above 92 is the reason to buy this, and it is genuinely high. Most downlights in this catalogue record >80; a good one records >84. This records above 92, which is near the top of what LED lighting achieves.

Where that shows:

• Over a kitchen bench — meat, greens, fruit and timber hold their colour instead of going grey. It is the single most noticeable upgrade in a kitchen.
• On artwork, joinery and stone — pigment, grain and veining read true.
• In a bathroom or dressing area — skin looks healthy rather than washed out, and you can judge colour properly.

⚠ One correction to our own copy: the page said the warranty provides “assurance that it will never need to be replaced”. It does not. A five-year warranty is a five-year term — a genuinely good one, and among the longest in this catalogue — but no LED is permanent, and we would rather tell you the term than imply something it does not cover.

Worth noting if you are comparing the MDL family: two of the three MDL-16D variants carry five years and one is recorded at one. If you are looking at the 5000 K version, ask us — we believe that value is an error and have raised it with Telbix.

⚠ Spacing follows from the beam, and it is closer than a wide downlight's. A 40° beam gives a defined pool, so fittings spaced as though they were 120° will leave scallops between them. Tell us your ceiling height and the room, and we will work the layout out.

⚠ But no source records the cutout — on a recessed downlight, and it is the first thing an electrician asks for. The fitting is 63 mm in diameter and 98 mm deep, so the aperture will be smaller than 63, but we are not going to guess a hole size. Ask us before the ceiling is cut and we will confirm it with Telbix.

⚠ And no insulation rating is recorded on this variant, where the 5000 K version records IC-4. Do not assume it may be covered by insulation — ask us.

Power factor above 0.9 — mentioned on our page, and almost nowhere else in this catalogue, so it is worth explaining. Power factor is how efficiently a fitting draws the current it uses. A poor one (0.5) pulls more current than its wattage suggests, which on a large number of downlights loads the circuit harder than the arithmetic implies. Above 0.9 is good, and it matters on a whole-of-house run.

240 V direct to mains — no separate transformer. Dimmable: ⚠ the type is not recorded, so tell us your dimmer and we will confirm compatibility before you buy one. In aluminium, which carries the LED's heat away and is the single thing that most determines how long a diode lasts.
