Marthos 1 Light Floor Lamp Black/Antique Gold

The Marthos is a 1,550 mm boom-style floor lamp — a horizontal arm carrying a domed metal shade — in black with antique gold, on a marble base.

A boom arm reaches further than an arc

The arm runs horizontally out to 430 mm from a vertical stem, so the shade sits well clear of the base. That means you can stand the lamp behind a sofa or beside a chair and still have the light land over the seat — something a straight-stem floor lamp cannot do.

The contrast is the design

Shade and arm in antique gold, base and central tube in black. The split is deliberate: it draws a line along the arm and stops a tall lamp reading as one heavy column.

5.6 kg of marble, and it needs it

A cantilevered arm puts the weight off-centre, so the base has to counterbalance it. The marble base at 5.6 kg is what keeps it stable. It also means the lamp is not something you move casually — place it once.

A domed metal shade directs light

Opaque, so the light goes down onto the seat rather than across the room. This is a reading and task lamp; for ambient light, plan a second source.

E27 to 25 W, not supplied

An ordinary replaceable globe on a 2 m cable. Dimming depends on the globe and the dimmer.
