Product Description
xThe Malabo is a 900 mm exterior bollard in black, grey or rust — 12 W giving 195 lm at 3000 K, CRI above 95, IP65, and it runs on either 24 V or 240 V.
It works on two completely different circuits, and that is the reason to specify it. The Malabo can be wired as:
- 24 V low voltage — Class III, running off a garden transformer with the rest of your low-voltage lighting. Safer around spades and roots, easy to extend or re-position later, and it joins an existing 24 V run.
- 240 V mains — Class I, earthed, wired directly. No transformer needed, and no limit on run length from a transformer's capacity.
Almost nothing else in this catalogue offers both. It means you can use the same bollard along a whole property — low voltage through the garden beds, mains along a long driveway — and have it look identical throughout. Tell us which way you are wiring it and we will confirm what is supplied.
CRI above 95 — and nothing said so
Equal highest in this catalogue, with the Rilto garden spike. Outdoors that number matters more than indoors, because what you are lighting is green: at CRI 80, foliage goes flat and grey-green, bark loses its warmth and sandstone reads as concrete. At 95, a planted bed at night looks like the planting.
On a bollard lining a path through a garden, that is the whole difference between lighting the plants and lighting past them.
⚠ A caution about the output figure, stated honestly. 195 lm from 12 W is 16 lumens per watt, which is very low — the Rilto, at the same CRI 95 and the same 3000 K, achieves 60 lm/W.
A deeply shielded bollard does lose a great deal of light inside its own body, so the figure is possible — but it is a quarter of what its closest comparable achieves, and we have asked Telbix to confirm it. Published as recorded. What you can rely on either way: the Malabo is a path marker. It shows you where the path is and lights the planting beside it; it does not floodlight a driveway.
900 mm tall — and only 300 mm of cable
900 mm high, 130 mm wide, at 2.75 kg. At that height light falls from above knee level onto the path — lighting the ground you walk on without shining in your eyes.
⚠ The cable is 300 mm. That is 30 centimetres, and it decides your layout: the joint or connection point must sit within 300 mm of the bollard, which in practice means directly below it, in a position that stays dry. Plan the cable route and the joint housings before the paving or the beds go in — this is the sort of thing that is very hard to fix afterwards.
IP65, aluminium and polycarbonate
Dust-tight and rated against water jets from any direction — which is what a bollard actually meets at ground level: sprinklers, run-off, driving rain and the hose.
The body is aluminium and polycarbonate. Inland and in ordinary suburban gardens that is entirely fine; near the coast, salt attacks aluminium — it pits and fixings seize. For a beachfront site, tell us before you order several and we will talk through the trade-off.
Three finishes, and rust is the one for a garden
Rust reads as weathered steel and sits naturally against mulch, timber, brick and planting — it disappears by day and only the light remains. Grey is the quiet neutral against paving and concrete. Black is the sharpest and most architectural. All three are sand-textured, so they do not show salt or water marks.
It is not dimmable, and the LED is integrated and included — nothing to buy and nothing to replace. A licensed electrician installs it, whichever voltage you choose.

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.
Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.
Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.
Damaged or Missing Items
Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.
If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.
Returns
Change of Mind Returns
- Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
- The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.
