Luc 24V 5W Exterior LED Post Spike Light

The Luc PT5 is a 480 mm 24 V post spike light in black sand — 5 W giving 220 lm at 3000 K, CRI above 90, IP65.

The Luc is a dome-shaped head with the LEDs on its underside, so all of its light is thrown downward. That is the whole design, and it has two consequences worth stating:

• It puts a clean circle of light on the path or bed below it and nothing above — so it lights the ground without glaring at anyone walking towards it, and without throwing light into a neighbour's window or up into the sky.
• At 480 mm on a spike, the head sits at about knee height, which is where a path marker should be: high enough to light a useful circle, low enough to stay out of the eyeline.

220 lumens — a path light, correctly sized

5 W at 44 lm/W. Downward-only light is efficient in use even when the raw figure is modest: none of it is wasted upward, so 220 lm on the ground goes further than 220 lm scattered.

Practically it lights a circle of path or bed. Used in a run at even spacing along a footpath or an access way — which is how the Luc is meant to be used — the effect is a rhythm of lit circles that reads as a route. One on its own does very little.

IP65 — a genuinely exposed rating

Dust-tight and rated against water jets from any direction, which is what a fitting standing in a garden bed actually meets: sprinklers, driving rain and hosing down. The dome head helps too — it sheds water rather than collecting it.

At 0.5 kg it is light, and the spike means no digging and no fixing — you push it in, and you can move it when the planting grows. That is the real advantage of a spike over a bollard: a garden is not finished when you light it.

• Footpaths and access ways, in a run at even spacing.
• Front gardens, green spaces and flowerbeds — CRI 90 shows the planting.
• Beds you expect to change — the spike moves.
• ⚠ A 24 V transformer is required and not supplied.
• ⚠ 220 lm downward — use several, not brighter ones.
