Loka Surface Mounted Wall Light

The Loka is the outlier in Havit’s outdoor wall range and the reason is its shape: a gooseneck arm carrying a domed shade that throws light downward, the barn-light silhouette usually seen over a shed door or a garage. It projects 410 mm from the wall with a 250 mm shade, which is a genuinely large fitting — worth measuring against the wall before ordering, because it is not a flush box.

It comes in black or white, both poly powder-coated over aluminium, with stainless grub screws and a backing plate supplied.

It arrives lit, and the lamp comes out

Havit supplies it with an 8 W E27 LED filament globe at a warm 2700K, giving 700 lumens over a 120° downward spread. The important part is that this is a standard E27 screw fitting, not a sealed module. When the lamp eventually fails you replace a globe rather than the light, and you can change the character of the light later — a brighter or a different-toned E27 — without touching the wiring. The maximum you may fit is 8 W.

Unusually for this range, the colour temperature is fixed at 2700K. There is no tri-colour switch, and nothing to set on installation. If a neutral or cool white is wanted, that decision is made by choosing a different globe.

Dimming, which most of this range cannot do

It is Triac dimmable — stated on Havit’s data sheet, on its product page and in its installation sheet, which is a stronger position than most outdoor fittings hold. A standard Triac wall dimmer will take it down to a low glow, and because it is a filament globe the dimmed colour warms rather than simply darkening. There is no driver in it: it wires straight to 240 V mains.

⚠ Where it can and cannot go

The rating is IP54, which covers splashing rather than sustained weather. A gooseneck with an open-bottomed dome is not a fitting for an exposed wall taking driven rain — it belongs under an eave, over a covered door or on a sheltered elevation. Havit also states that aluminium fittings should not be installed within 5 km of salt water environments, which rules out coastal addresses for this body material.

Impact resistance is IK04, which is modest, behind a clear polycarbonate diffuser rather than glass. Glare is UGR under 29, helped by the shade putting the lamp above the line of sight, with CRI above 80 and colour consistency at SDCM under 5.

Installing it

It is Protection Class 1 and needs an earth. Mounting holes are 61 mm apart vertically on a 115 mm wall plate, and Havit’s sheet asks that the glass be refitted carefully onto its thread and the globe twisted fully home — a loose globe is the usual cause of a fitting that will not light. One honest note: Havit’s sheet gives two different overall heights on two pages, so we have published none. Measure the fitting if the vertical dimension matters.
