Iron and raffia — and the record lists only the iron

The Katrin pairs an iron frame with a woven raffia shade, and our record says “Iron” alone. The raffia is what makes it: industrial structure carrying a natural weave, so the pendant reads as warm rather than hard. Lit, the weave passes light through itself, throwing a fine texture onto the ceiling and the walls around it — which a solid shade of the same shape would not do.

400 mm wide and 120 mm high — broad and shallow

A wide, shallow shade. Over a table that is the useful shape: it covers the surface without hanging into your eyeline, where a deep 400 mm shade would. Over an island or a bench it spreads light across the width rather than dropping it in one place.

The globe is visible through a woven shade — choose accordingly

Raffia is not opaque. Looking up from below you will see the globe, so buy a decorative E27 — a filament or globe-shaped lamp — rather than a plain frosted one. It costs nothing extra and it is the difference between a considered fitting and one that looks unfinished.

One of a family of three

Katrin runs as a pendant, a floor lamp and a table lamp, all in the same iron and raffia. That lets a room carry the same weave at three heights, which reads far more deliberately than three lamps that merely resemble one another.
