KATRIN FLOOR LAMP

The Katrin is a 1,580 mm floor lamp in matte iron with a raffia shade — taking one E27 globe.

Raffia, which our record does not mention

The shade is raffia — the dried palm-leaf fibre, hand-wound — not rattan, not paper, not fabric. That distinction matters because raffia is finer and flatter than rattan: where a rattan weave throws bold shadow patterns, raffia gives a soft, close, almost woven-linen texture that glows evenly rather than casting a pattern. It is the quieter of the two natural fibres, and our product record lists the material as “iron”.

Iron and raffia — hard against soft

A matte black iron frame under a natural raffia shade. The contrast is the composition: industrial structure, natural surface. It is why the Katrin reads as contemporary rather than coastal, where a fully natural lamp would look holiday-house.

It reaches out — 530 mm

Worth checking before you order: the lamp is 1,580 mm tall, 300 mm wide and 530 mm long. That length is the reach of the arm — it stands beside a chair and puts the shade out over the seat, rather than beside it. Good for reading; worth measuring against a tight corner.

Plug in and use it

Class II, double insulated, no earth required, with a lead and plug fitted. No electrician.

One E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied

Behind raffia a plain warm globe is right — the fibre is close enough that a decorative filament will not read through it. Dimming is globe dependent.

Caring for raffia

Natural fibre: dust with a dry cloth and keep liquid cleaners away from it. Raffia marks and stiffens if it gets wet, and there is no fixing it afterwards.
