Jonsel 30Cm Pendant Light

The Jonsel PE30 is a 300 mm pendant with a stretched fabric shade in black or white — one E27 globe to 25 W, not supplied, on a 2,000 mm suspension.

An elastic fabric shade — and why that is not the same as a fabric drum

The Jonsel's shade is soft, elastic fabric stretched over a frame, not a stiff drum. Three things follow from that, and none of them were explained:

• The fabric is thin and under tension, so it is translucent — the shade glows across its whole surface rather than only throwing light out of the top and bottom, which is what a rigid opaque drum does.
• The stretch gives a smooth, seamless curve with no visible frame or ribs — the reason it reads as minimal rather than traditional.
• It is very light: 0.9 kg for a 300 mm pendant.

The result is a soft, even, diffused light in every direction, with no glare and no visible globe — genuinely comfortable to sit under.

The middle of three sizes

300 mm wide, shade 275 mm high. Jonsel comes in three sizes, and this is the one that works singly over a small table, in an entry or beside a stair, where the 200 mm is better in a run and the largest suits a dining table.

Very light — which makes runs easy

At 0.9 kg the Jonsel goes onto any standard fixing, and three of them is only 2.7 kg across a ceiling. For a run over an island, that is about as easy as a pendant install gets — and the 100 mm canopy keeps each ceiling point small and discreet.

Black or white — and they behave differently when lit

On a translucent shade the colour changes the light itself, not just the look:

• White — the shade glows brightly and puts light into the room from its whole surface. The brighter, softer choice.
• Black — far less light passes through the fabric, so the output goes mostly down. A more contained, more dramatic pool, and the fitting stays a dark shape in the room.

So this is not only a colour decision. White for ambient, black for focus.

Where it works

• Over small tables, in entries and beside stairs — singly.
• Bedrooms and living rooms, where soft even light suits.
• Runs over an island — three is only 2.7 kg.
• ⚠ White glows; black throws its light down. Choose on effect, not colour.
• ⚠ Ask us for the overall height if the clearance is tight.
