This is a handheld remote for controlling LED lighting. It is the control surface only - it sends the signal, and a receiver wired into the run is what acts on it.
⚠ It will not run anything on its own. Confirm you have the matching receiver before ordering a remote by itself.
This unit is built for Tuneable white lighting.
⚠ The channel type has to match the strip. A Tuneable white control on a strip with a different channel layout will drive the wrong channels or leave some of them dead.
It is battery powered, so it needs no wiring and can be kept anywhere in the room.
It is made from plastic.
⚠ At IP20 this unit has no weather protection. It must be installed in a permanently dry indoor location.
A remote is the most flexible control and the easiest to lose. It goes where the user is rather than where the wiring is, which is exactly what suits a bedside or a lounge - and exactly why it ends up under a cushion.
Give it a home from the start, and consider a wall cradle where one is available. A remote that is the only way to operate a circuit is a single point of failure with legs.
Batteries are the other thing to plan for. A remote that has stopped working has usually stopped being powered, and that is worth checking before anything else is suspected.
There is nothing to install on the remote itself. The receiver it talks to is the part that is wired in, and that side of the job is where the electrical work sits.
Pair the remote to the receiver before either is fitted into its final position. Pairing at arm's length on a bench is straightforward; pairing to a receiver already sealed into a ceiling is not.
Decide where it goes before the walls are finished. A control wants to be where people reach for it - by the door they come in through, not the one the wiring happened to arrive at.
No. It is a control unit. The lighting still needs whatever supply it normally uses - for LED strip, that means a driver.
It is built for Tuneable white lighting. If your strip has a different channel layout the colours will not map correctly.
No - it is battery powered. The receiver it talks to is the part that is wired in.
No. At IP20 it has no weather protection and must stay in a dry indoor location.
Not for this unit itself, but the driver or supply feeding the lighting is mains work and does need one.
