Sunrise Wall Light Plaster 150/200

The Sunrise is a plaster uplighter that is meant to stop looking like a light fitting. The body is cast plaster, supplied in raw white, and it is designed to be painted in the same coat as the wall it sits on — so once the room is finished, what reads is a wash of light up the wall rather than a fixture on it. It is the standard approach for hallways, stairwells and feature walls where the lighting should be felt and not seen.

Indoor only — check this before anything else

The Sunrise is rated IP20. That is a dust-and-fingers rating with no water protection at all, so it is an interior fitting: hallways, living areas, bedrooms, stairwells. It must not go on an exterior wall, in an alfresco area, or anywhere it can be rained on or hosed. Plaster is porous, so this is a material limit as much as an electrical one. If you want this look outdoors you need a different product entirely.

Two sizes, two globes, two colour temperatures

• HV8069 — the smaller body, taking a G9 globe. Supplied at 2 W: 120 lm in warm white, 130 lm in cool white.
• HV8070 — the larger body, taking an E14 candle-base globe. Supplied at 3 W: 220 lm in warm white, 240 lm in cool white.

Colour is fixed per model rather than switchable: the W versions are 3000K warm white and the C versions are 5500K cool white. Choose at the point of order, because it cannot be changed afterwards without changing the globe. Both throw a 120° spread up the wall.

Specifying and installing it

Both sizes run on 240 V mains and are Protection Class 1, so they require an earth. Connection is made in the cavity at the rear of the mounting bracket, and the fitting is surface-mounted to the wall. Globes are replaceable and the ceiling differs by size — 25 W maximum on the G9 in the HV8069, 40 W maximum on the E14 in the HV8070. Neither is dimmable with the globes supplied. There is no diffuser over the lamp, which is what gives the crisp upward beam, and it also means the globe should sit below the lip of the recess rather than proud of it. Havit quotes CRI above 80 and lamp life over 30,000 hours, and rates the plaster body IK02 for impact — low, which is the honest trade for a material you can paint and patch.
