HV5528T-BC is the Gleam deep recessed downlight in a black polycarbonate face with a chrome insert — a complete 9 W luminaire on a Ø90 mm cut-out, supplied with its own driver, flex and plug. The chrome bezel is the reason to choose this part number over the plain black model: it picks up chrome tapware, handles and rail work, and it is the only thing that differs. Output, optics, rating and warranty are identical to every other Gleam on the same cut-out.
Setting the LED back inside the housing rather than flush with the ceiling is the whole design. It narrows the angle at which the source is directly visible, so a run of them reads as pools of light instead of a row of bright dots — which is why the deep Gleam gets specified in living rooms, bedrooms and hospitality where a shallow fitting would glare. The trade is the depth the ceiling void has to give up, and the HV5528-IC4CAP adds about 10 mm more on top of that.
A switch on the back selects 3000K, 4000K or 5500K before the fitting goes in, and Havit measures 680 lm, 795 lm and 745 lm in that order. The brightest setting is the middle one — 5500K gives about 6% less light than 4000K rather than more, which is the opposite of what most people expect from a tri-colour downlight. Colour rendering is CRI >80 and the beam is 90°, wide enough to wash a ceiling evenly. The face is fixed; Havit lists tilt as none.
This model is IC-4 only when the HV5528-IC4CAP is fitted, that rating covers the fitting only and the driver may not be installed under insulation, and the fixture must not be used with loose-fill insulation such as macerated paper or wool. The driver must be mounted above any insulation covering the fitting so that it can ventilate. The most common failure in this class of downlight is a driver quietly buried in batts by someone who read only the IC-4 line.
It runs on 240 V AC from a separate driver and lands on a plug base fixed in the ceiling, which makes it quick to install and quick to swap. It is Protection Class 2, so no earth is required at the fitting, IK08, and rated >30,000 hrs. IP54 applies to the front of the fitting only, so it suits a bathroom or laundry ceiling outside the immediate shower zone but not an exposed one. It is Triac dimmable. Havit's warranty line for this part number reads "3 Years replacement warranty (items ordered after 01/01/22)". Lights For You also lists the same engine on a Ø76 mm cut-out as HV5529T for ceilings where the larger hole will not work.
Ø90 mm. The same 9 W engine is available on a Ø76 mm cut-out as HV5529T, so confirm which model you have ordered before the ceiling is cut — the hole is the one thing that cannot be undone.
A complete light. HV5528T-BC is a whole 9 W downlight with its driver, flex and plug; the chrome insert is the visible bezel, not a separate part you buy.
4000K, at 795 lm. 5500K gives 745 lm and 3000K gives 680 lm — so the coolest setting is not the brightest.
Only with the HV5528-IC4CAP fitted, and only the fitting itself. Havit states that the driver may not be installed under insulation and must sit above it to ventilate, and that loose-fill insulation such as macerated paper or wool must not be used with this fixture.
No. It is Protection Class 2 and is supplied with a flex and plug that connects to a plug base installed in the ceiling.
The IP54 rating covers the front of the fitting only, so it suits a bathroom or laundry ceiling outside the immediate shower zone. It is not rated for an exposed outdoor ceiling.
Yes — Havit lists it as Triac dimmable and offers the HV9625 Triac dimmer to suit its Triac dimmable drivers. A DALI-dimming equivalent of the same fitting is published through Havit’s Commercial range.
