Curva Antique Brass LED

This is the middle Curva — 5 W of the three-size range — in antique brass. The body is solid brass throughout, and the antique finish is applied to it rather than being the raw metal, which is the practical difference between this and the natural brass version: antique brass arrives already darkened and stays close to that tone, where natural brass starts bright and patinates on its own schedule. If you want a consistent look across a flight from day one, this is the finish that gives it.

Which size to buy

All three Curva share a body, a frosted glass diffuser and a mounting, so output is the only real decision. This 5 W model gives 400 lm, 450 lm and 425 lm across its three colour settings — brighter than the 3 W entry model and suited to wider treads, landings and paths where the fitting is expected to light the ground rather than only mark an edge. The 7.5 W version steps up again. Note the middle colour setting is the brightest of the three, so read the figures as three colours rather than as a ladder of outputs.

Wiring it

It runs on 12 V DC constant voltage, so the driver must be a constant-voltage type — a constant-current driver is a different device and will not run it correctly. Wiring is parallel, and the fitting is Protection Class 3, no earth required. At 5 W each, six fittings draw 30 W; size the driver above the total rather than level with it, and give it a home that suits its own IP rating rather than burying it in the garden bed.

It dims, but only if the driver does

The Curva is Triac dimmable, which is genuinely unusual in a step light. Because the fitting runs at 12 V DC, the dimming happens upstream at the driver, so the driver must itself be a Triac-dimmable 12 V DC constant-voltage unit and the wall dimmer a compatible leading-edge type. Pair a dimmable fitting with an ordinary driver and you get no dimming at best and flicker at worst — and the fitting gets blamed for the driver's limitation. Specify the pair together.

Specifying it

The 5 W LED is built in — no globe, no socket. Tri-colour switching across 3000 K, 4000 K and 5500 K is set once at installation. IP65 covers direct rain and hose wash-down, and IK06 gives it impact tolerance at shin height. Frosted glass diffuser, CRI above 80, solid brass body.
