A suggestion, not a specification. A calculator can get it wrong — have a licensed electrician confirm the driver, the total load and the wiring before you order.
The Mini Ollo is the smallest recessed step light Havit builds with an eyelid, and this is the black one. Havit's own description is "Recessed Wall or Step Light With Eyelid", and the eyelid is the point: the aperture sits under an integral hood rather than flush and open, so the lit face is set back inside the trim. It is a 1 W built-in LED on a 30° beam, which makes it a marker light for treads, risers, low walls and pathway edging rather than anything you would light a space with.
The face is stainless steel with a poly powder coated black finish, over a full 316 stainless steel body, and the lens is tempered glass. That combination is why the black version costs the same as the bare stainless one and less than the copper: the corrosion-resisting metal is the same in all three, and only the face treatment changes. The sealed rating is IP67 and the impact rating is IK10.
Cutting it in is the part worth reading before you order. Havit publishes two apertures for this fitting and they are not interchangeable: Ø38 mm without a canister and Ø46 mm with one. Both figures are on the data sheet as published values, so work to whichever way you are mounting rather than to the trim you can see. If you are setting it into concrete, the canister goes in first and finishes flush with the wall.
It runs on 12 V DC constant voltage and will not work without a driver. Havit's instructions are explicit and in capitals about it — "DO NOT CONNECT LIGHT FITTING DIRECTLY TO 240V" — and they also set a hard limit that people miss: the fitting cannot sit more than 25 m from its driver, or the warranty is void. On a run of markers down a long flight of steps that is a real design constraint, not a formality. Multiple fittings wire in parallel.
The colour temperature is chosen at the moment you wire it, not afterwards. The neutral cables are marked; you connect the 3000 K or 5500 K tail for those, or join both together for 4000 K, and terminate whatever you did not use so it stays IP rated. Once the joins are soldered and sealed, the colour is fixed. There is no switch and no remote. Decide across the whole run before anyone picks up a soldering iron, because a mismatched tread in the middle of a staircase means cutting a sealed joint back open.
There is no globe and no socket — the LED is built in, so there is nothing to replace and nothing to specify. Every join has to be soldered and sealed in adhesive-lined heat shrink or a gel cap; Havit voids the warranty if it is not, and on an IP67 fitting buried in masonry that is the one step you cannot revisit. Lights For You stocks the black Mini Ollo alongside the copper and stainless faces of the same body, so a single stair run can mix finishes without changing the aperture.
Two figures, both published by Havit, and you need to know which one applies before you cut. Without a canister the cut-out is Ø38 mm. With a canister it is Ø46 mm. The canister is the sleeve you set into concrete or masonry so the fitting drops into a finished hole. If you are going into a stud wall or a timber riser you generally will not use one. The trim overlaps the aperture in both cases, so measure the fitting or canister you actually have in hand rather than working back from the visible face.
No. This is a 12 V DC constant-voltage fitting and it must be run from a suitable 12 V DC constant-voltage LED driver. Havit's installation instructions say it in capitals: "DO NOT CONNECT LIGHT FITTING DIRECTLY TO 240V". There is also a distance rule that matters as much as the driver choice — the fitting cannot be installed more than 25 m from that driver, and Havit voids the warranty if it is. It is Protection Class 3, low voltage, and needs no earth. A licensed electrician has to do the work.
By which cable you connect, at install time. The neutral tails are marked for colour temperature: connect the 3000 K tail for warm white or the 5500 K tail for cool white, and join both tails together to get 4000 K. Whichever tail you do not use has to be terminated so it stays IP rated. The choice is permanent once the joins are soldered and sealed — there is no switch on this fitting and no remote — so settle it for the whole run before the first one goes in.
No. Both Havit sheets give the installation type as "Wall - Recessed" and Havit's own page calls it a recessed wall or step light. Nothing published for this model covers being walked on, driven over, or set into paving where water collects. Havit does make a Mini Ollo for that — it is a different model, HV2892T, described as a step or inground light — so if the fitting needs to go into the ground, that is the one to look at rather than this one.
Havit lists it as dimmable, on the data sheet, in the installation instructions and on its own product page. What none of those three publish is how — there is no dimming protocol, no named compatible dimmer and no driver list. Since the fitting takes 12 V DC constant voltage and has no control gear of its own, any dimming happens on the supply side, at the driver and its control. We have not filled that gap with a guess: check the dimming specification of the driver you intend to pair it with.
Here is exactly what the documents say, because the answer is narrower than a yes or a no. The salt-water rule in Havit's instructions for this fitting reads "Aluminium and 304SS fittings must not be installed within 5km of any salt water environments" — and this fitting is neither. Its body is 316 stainless steel. So that clause does not name it, and we have not applied it. Equally, Havit publishes no coastal approval for this model, so we are not claiming one. What does apply in any exposed position is the maintenance condition below.
Yes. Havit's instructions are unqualified on this — "All 316 stainless steel fittings must have regular cleaning maintenance to avoid any tea staining from forming on fitting", and the same line adds that "Warranty does not cover Tea Staining". The powder coating is on the face; the body underneath it is 316 stainless, so the fitting is covered by that clause regardless of what colour the visible trim is. Wash it down with clean water as part of normal outdoor maintenance and more often anywhere salt or grit is carried onto it.
