Metro Square 316 Stainless Steel

The Metro is a flush recessed inground uplighter with a 316 stainless steel face on an aluminium body, and this listing sells the square shape in two parts: HV1701T, which runs on 12 V DC, and HV1706T, which runs on 240 V AC mains. The fitting drops into a canister set below ground and finishes level with the surface behind clear tempered glass. Havit rates it trafficable to 600 kg and IP65, with an IK10 impact rating.

The real decision here is 12 V or mains — and they are not the same fitting electrically

Both parts look identical in the ground and produce the same light. What differs is how they are wired, and Havit treats them differently for a reason.

• HV1701T — 12 V DC. Constant-voltage low voltage, Protection Class III, no earth required. It takes an MR16 globe and must be run from a suitable 12 V DC LED driver. ⛔ It must never be connected directly to 240 V.
• HV1706T — 240 V AC. Wired straight to mains with no driver at all, and it is Protection Class I — an earth connection is required. It takes a GU10 globe, and Havit's own wiring step has the electrician join the earths first.

⚠ Because the two parts sit on one page, check the part number in the selector before you order — they are not interchangeable once the cable is run.

The globe is replaceable, so the light you get is the globe's

Each part ships with a 5 W tri-colour LED globe fitted. That globe gives 270 lm at 3000K, 285 lm at 4000K and 300 lm at 5500K, through a 120° beam at CRI >80. Those numbers describe the light as it is supplied — the beam angle belongs to whichever globe is in the fitting, not to the fitting itself. Havit's ceilings are 20 W for MR16 and 35 W for GU10, and the fitting's published lamp expectancy is >30,000hrs. ⚠ Havit records it as not dimmable with the supplied globes — a statement about those globes, not about the fitting, because the base is replaceable.

Set the colour temperature before it goes in the ground

The tri-colour selector is a small switch on the side of the globe, not on the fitting, and the globe leaves the factory on 3000K. Reaching it means undoing the 4 allen screws in the face, lifting the face away and easing the globe out. ⛔ That is a job you want to do on the bench, not on your knees in a wet garden bed.

The hole, the drainage, and the conditions the warranty actually rests on

Havit's drawing gives the cutout as Ø110 mm with the canister and Ø100 mm without; the square face measures 120 × 120 mm and the canister is 155 mm deep. ⛔ Drainage is a warranty condition, not a suggestion: Havit asks for a 100 mm space under the canister and 100–150 mm of crushed rock below that, and states that where no drainage is allowed the warranty will be voided. The canister must finish level with the ground — failing that voids the warranty in its own right. Every joint must be soldered and sealed watertight, every o-ring and seal seated, and silicone run around the edge of the fitting. Fittings run in parallel, and the supply reaching each one must stay within ±5% of rated, or the warranty is void — volt drop over a long garden run is the usual reason that limit is missed.

Where it should not go

⚠ Havit's current installation sheet restricts aluminium and 304 stainless steel fittings to no closer than 5 km from a salt water environment, and the Metro's body is aluminium under its 316 face. ⚠ Separately, tea staining on 316 stainless steel is not covered by the warranty anywhere, so the face needs regular cleaning — a stainless maintenance kit is the usual answer. Havit's warranty is 3 Years Replacement.
