The Gleam is a dim-to-warm downlight, and that single feature is the reason to choose it. Most dimmable LEDs hold their colour as they dim, so a room at 20% brightness is the same clinical white it was at full output. The Gleam instead warms from 3000K down to 1800K as you dim it — the way a halogen lamp or a candle behaves — so an evening setting actually feels like evening.

It is a fixed recessed downlight with a 90 mm cutout, built from a polycarbonate face on an aluminium body in black or white. Output is 685 lm from a 9 W built-in LED, consistent across every finish in the range.

Cutout and installation

The 90 mm cutout is the number to check first. If you are replacing existing downlights, measure the hole you already have — a 90 mm fitting will not cover a larger aperture, and cutting up to 90 mm from something smaller is straightforward while going the other way is not.

This is a 240 V AC fitting and it is Protection Class II, so no earth connection is required — worth knowing on older wiring. Dimming is Triac, and Havit lists the HV9625 Triac Dimmer as the matched control; since the dim-to-warm behaviour is the whole point of this fitting, pairing it with a dimmer it is designed for is not optional. Havit also lists an optional HV5528-IC4CAP cap as an installation accessory.

Rating and finishes

The IP54 rating on the Gleam is qualified in Havit's documentation and the qualification matters: it is IP54 to the front of the fitting only. The face is sealed against dust and splashing water, but the body above the ceiling line is not, so this is a fitting for a sealed ceiling — not for an exposed eave where weather can reach the fitting from behind. The body is IK08 impact rated, colour rendering is CRI >80, and lamp expectancy is over 30,000 hours.

Nine variants cover black and white bodies, each available with black, chrome, gold or matching inserts, so the aperture trim can be picked to suit tapware or hardware in the same room. Every one of them produces the same 685 lm at the same 1800K–3000K dim-to-warm range.

Havit backs the Gleam with a 3 year replacement warranty. Dim-to-warm fittings are a small part of the market and Lights For You keeps the range in stock across all nine finishes for exactly that reason — it is the fitting people come back for once they have lived with an LED that goes cold when it dims.

Questions
What does "dim to warm" actually mean?

As you dim the fitting, its colour temperature drops as well as its brightness — from 3000K at full output down to 1800K at the bottom of the range. That mimics how a halogen or incandescent lamp behaves, so dimming the lights in the evening produces a genuinely warmer room rather than a dimmer version of the same white.

What size cutout do I need?

90 mm. If you are replacing existing downlights, check the aperture you already have before ordering — enlarging a hole to 90 mm is simple, but a 90 mm fitting will not cover an opening larger than that.

Does it need an earth connection?

No. The Gleam is Protection Class II, which means no earth is required. It still must be installed by a licensed electrician, but the class II construction can simplify things on older wiring.

Which dimmer should I use?

A Triac dimmer, and Havit specifies the HV9625 Triac Dimmer as the compatible control. Because the dim-to-warm curve is the reason to buy this fitting, using the matched dimmer is worth doing rather than substituting an unspecified alternative.

Is IP54 enough for an outdoor eave?

Not on its own. Havit rates the Gleam IP54 to the front of the fitting only — the face is sealed but the body above the ceiling is not. It suits a sealed indoor or under-cover ceiling, and it should not be used where weather can reach the fitting from behind.

Do the different insert colours change the light output?

No. All nine variants — black and white bodies with black, chrome, gold or matching inserts — produce the same 685 lm across the same 1800K to 3000K dim-to-warm range. The insert is purely a finish choice.

How bright is 685 lm in practice?

It is a general-purpose downlight output, comparable to a traditional 50 W halogen, and appropriate for living areas, bedrooms and hallways at normal ceiling heights. For task lighting over a bench, plan on closer spacing or a higher-output fitting.

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
