Gleam Insert Fixed Dim to Warm LED Downlight

The HV5529D2W is the dim-to-warm Gleam: a 9 W deep recessed downlight on a Ø76 mm cut-out whose colour temperature falls from 3000K to 1800K as it is dimmed, the way an incandescent lamp used to. Seven insert combinations sell from this listing — HV5529D2W-BB, -BC, -BG, -WB, -WC, -WG and -WW — each a complete luminaire supplied with its driver, flex and plug.

The condition that makes the feature work

Dim to warm is not a setting. It is a response to being dimmed, so the fitting has to be on a dimmer to do it at all. Havit states the requirement plainly for these part numbers: this fitting must be used with a Triac dimmer to achieve the dim-to-warm function. Wired to a plain switch it works perfectly well as a light and simply stays at 3000K for its whole life, which is the single most common disappointment with this class of product. Havit offers the HV9625 Triac dimmer to suit its Triac dimmable drivers.

Output, and why there is only one figure

Havit publishes 685 lm for this model — one number, not three, because the light does not have selectable settings to measure separately. That figure is the full-output reading at the top of the 1800K–3000K range; dim it and both the level and the colour move together. The beam is 90° from a labelled beam-angle column on the model's own dated sheet, and colour rendering is CRI >80. The face is fixed with no tilt.

Cut-out and depth

It shares the Ø76 mm cut-out and the Ø82 mm × 66 mm body of the tri-colour HV5529T, rising to about 76 mm deep with the HV5528-IC4CAP. As on that model, the installation sheet's specification table prints a 90 mm cut-out that contradicts its own dimension drawings; the dated data sheet, the drawings and Havit's product pages all give Ø76 mm. It is IC-4 only when the HV5528-IC4CAP is fitted, that rating covers the fitting only and the driver may not be installed under insulation, and the fixture must not be used with loose-fill insulation such as macerated paper or wool.

Wiring, rating and warranty

It runs on 240 V AC from a separate driver onto a plug base in the ceiling, is Protection Class 2 so no earth is required at the fitting, and is IK08 and rated >30,000 hrs. IP54 applies to the front of the fitting only. Havit's warranty line for these part numbers reads "3 Years replacement warranty (items ordered after 01/01/22)", and Havit also publishes a DALI-dimming equivalent through its Commercial range. Lights For You lists the tri-colour HV5529T on the identical cut-out if fixed colour selection suits the room better.
