Fibra four-panel coach wall light in black

The Fibra is a four-panel coach lantern in poly powder coated black aluminium with glass, 310mm tall and projecting 215mm from the wall. It sits a little lower and a little deeper than a tall narrow lantern, which changes how it reads on a wall: broader in proportion, it suits a wide entry, a garage face or a rendered pier better than a slim doorway does.

Like the rest of the coach range it is a lamped fitting rather than a sealed LED unit. The light source sits behind clear glass where you can see it, which is the point of the style — a coach lantern with a hidden diffuser is just a box on a bracket.

The globe

An E27 globe is required for the fitting to light. Havit rates the Fibra with an LED filament globe at 8W and 700lm at 2700K, with colour rendering above 80 CRI. That warm colour is deliberate and worth keeping: a cool white globe in a traditional lantern fights the fitting it sits in, and on a brick or rendered wall it reads as security lighting rather than as an entry light.

The replaceable globe also means the fitting is serviceable years after it is installed, and that its output and colour can be changed later without touching the lantern itself.

Power, dimming and installation

The Fibra runs on 240V AC mains and needs no driver. Havit lists it as Triac dimmable, so a conventional LED-rated wall dimmer will work — but because the globe is what actually dims, the globe fitted has to be a dimmable one for the circuit to behave.

It is a Class 1 fitting and requires an earth connection. Installation is work for a licensed electrician, and with a 215mm projection it is worth checking the fitting will not foul a door swing or a gate before the position is fixed.

Weather rating and siting

The Fibra is rated IP44 for splashing water and IK04 for impact, which suits a wall with some shelter — beside a door, under an eave, on a porch — rather than one fully exposed to driven rain.

Havit attaches a siting condition to this fitting: aluminium and 304 stainless fittings must not be installed within 5km of any salt water environment. That is part of the warranty rather than a recommendation, and coastal siting is the usual reason an exterior fitting is refused under it.
