Felix Black Wall Light

The Felix is the compact one in Havit’s galvanised-iron lantern range — a squared, glass-sided wall light standing 300 mm tall, which is short enough to sit under a standard porch soffit without crowding it. It is the shape people reach for when they want a traditional coach-light silhouette without the bulk that usually comes with one.

It arrives lit, and the globe comes out

Havit supplies it with an 8 W E27 LED filament globe giving 700 lumens of warm 2700K light through a 120° spread. That is a genuine porch-lighting level rather than a decorative glow — enough to read a house number by. The globe is a normal screw-in E27, so it is replaceable: there is no sealed module to fail and no reason to scrap the fitting when the lamp eventually goes. Havit caps what you may fit at 60 W, and that ceiling is a thermal limit inside a closed glass body rather than a suggestion.

Colour is not fixed either. Havit lists the same fitting’s globe in 4000K and 5500K versions, so a warm entry light can become a neutral or cool one later by changing a globe rather than a fixture.

⚠ Where this fitting must not go

Havit states plainly that it is not suitable for installation in coastal areas or environments exposed to salt water. That is a blanket exclusion with no distance attached to it, and it follows from the material: galvanised iron is zinc over steel, and salt air attacks the zinc. If the address is near the sea, this range is the wrong specification and a 316 stainless steel or solid brass fitting is the right one.

Separately, the rating is IP44 — splash protection, not weather protection. It wants an eave, a porch roof or a covered entry above it, not an open wall taking driven rain. Impact resistance is IK02, which is low, so it is a domestic entrance fitting rather than something for a shared stairwell.

Dimming, and a correction worth making

It is Triac dimmable, and Havit’s own HV9625 300 W dial dimmer is the matched control. There is no driver in this fitting and none required — it wires straight to 240 V mains, and the dimming happens at the wall switch on the filament globe itself. Anything describing this lantern as having dimming electronics of its own is describing a part that is not in it.

Installing it

It is Protection Class 1, so it needs an earth — worth confirming before a retrofit onto older wiring, because it is the one thing that stops a job on the day. Wiring is parallel, and two steps in Havit’s instructions are warranty conditions rather than advice: fit the rubber pads to the glass tabs before the glass goes in, and run a silicone bead around the edge of the fitting once it is on the wall, which is what actually keeps water away from the terminals. Colour consistency is held to SDCM under 5 and CRI is above 80.
