• ⭐⭐ 25 W IS NOT ANY OF THE THREE FIGURES, AND IT EXCEEDS THE LED AND CFL MAXIMA. ⭐ Anyone reading the record as a guide would fit a lamp above what the fitting allows.
• ⭐ WE MEASURED HOW COMMON THIS IS, AND IT IS RARE. ⭐ Across every lamp-holder product whose sheet states an LED maximum, exactly one has a record wattage that exceeds it. ⭐ This is that one.
• ⭐ WHY THE MAXIMUM EXISTS: it is a heat limit, not a brightness one. ⭐ An enclosed glass pendant traps heat around the lamp, and the maximum is set by what the lampholder, the flex and the glass can tolerate over years. ⚠ Exceeding it shortens the lamp's life first and degrades the lampholder and flex insulation after that.
• ⭐ WE HAVE PUBLISHED THE SHEET'S FIGURES: 40 W incandescent, 20 W CFL, 20 W LED. ⭐ Ignore the 25 W.

⭐ A replaceable-lamp fitting does not have a wattage at all

• ⭐⭐ THIS IS THE UNDERLYING POINT, AND IT APPLIES TO EVERY E27 FITTING IN THIS CATALOGUE. ⭐ A pendant with a lampholder has no fixed load, because the load is whatever lamp you put in it. ⭐ It has a maximum, set by the fitting.
• ⭐ SO A SINGLE WATTAGE FIGURE ON A LAMP-HOLDER PRODUCT IS ANSWERING THE WRONG QUESTION. ⭐ Of 90 lamp-holder products publishing a wattage, the commonest value is 25 W at 22%, with 60 W next at 19%.
• ⚠ THAT IS SUGGESTIVE OF A TEMPLATE DEFAULT RATHER THAN PROOF OF ONE. ⭐ 22% against 19% is not a dominant value, so we are not going to claim the field is meaningless across the range — only that on this product it is wrong, which we can demonstrate.

⭐ 20 W of LED is more light than the number suggests

⭐ The 20 W LED maximum sounds restrictive against 40 W incandescent, and it is not. ⭐⭐ A 20 W LED LAMP PRODUCES ROUGHLY 2,000 LUMENS — more than a 100 W incandescent, and about five times what a 40 W one gives. ⭐ The maxima are heat limits, so the more efficient the lamp the more light the same limit allows. ⭐ In practice a pendant like this wants far less: 8–10 W (about 800–1,000 lm) suits a hallway or a bedside, and 10–15 W suits a kitchen bench. ⚠ The 20 W ceiling is unlikely to constrain you.

⭐ Opal or smoke — and the choice changes what the fitting does

• ⭐ The series offers smoke and opal glass on a black suspension.
• ⭐⭐ OPAL DIFFUSES AND SMOKE DOES NOT. ⭐ An opal pendant is a soft glowing object that can light a space; a smoke pendant is a lamp seen through tinted glass, and the lamp filament or LED array stays visible.
• ⚠ WHICH MAKES THE LAMP CHOICE MATTER MUCH MORE ON SMOKE. ⭐ Use a decorative filament-style lamp, because a bare LED array behind clear-ish glass looks like hardware. ⭐ On opal, any lamp shape works because you cannot see it.
• ⭐ SMOKE ALSO CUTS OUTPUT SUBSTANTIALLY — ⭐ so if the pendant is meant to light something rather than just be seen, opal is the choice, or budget a brighter lamp within the 20 W ceiling.

⚠ IP20, and the 1,200 mm drop

⭐ IP20 means no protection against water at all — ⛔ indoor use only, and not over a bath, a shower or an exposed outdoor entry. ⭐ The suspension is 1,200 mm, which is a starting length rather than a fixed one on most pendants of this type; ask us if you need it shortened. ⚠ OVER A BENCH OR TABLE, AIM FOR THE BOTTOM OF THE GLASS AT ABOUT 750–900 mm ABOVE THE SURFACE — ⭐ low enough to feel intentional, high enough to see across. ⭐ From a 2.7 m ceiling a full 1,200 mm drop puts the glass bottom at roughly 1.25 m, which is too low over a walkway and about right over a bench.
