The Elie OY50 is a 500 mm LED oyster only 45 mm deep, in chrome trim — 31 W giving 2,880 lm, with switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K, TRIAC dimmable.

45 mm deep on a 500 mm face

Eleven to one. That is genuinely slim for a 500 mm oyster — the Eltz is 80 mm and the Orlin thicker still — and it is the reason to choose it. At 45 mm the Elie reads as a disc set into the ceiling rather than a dome hung below it, which in a room with a standard 2.4-metre ceiling makes a visible difference to how low the ceiling feels.

2,880 lumens at 90 lumens per watt

31 W. That is efficient for a fitting with a full acrylic diffuser — well above the Orlin's 53 lm/W, though below the Eltz's 101, which has less to shine through. The trade is evenness: a full-face acrylic diffuser on a 500 mm disc gives broad, even illumination with no hotspot, which is what an oyster is for.

Dimmable and colour-switchable — the useful combination

3000 K, 4000 K, 5000 K selected at installation, plus TRIAC dimming on an ordinary wall dimmer. Most switchable oysters in this catalogue are on or off; this one gives you colour at install and level on the wall.

In a living room that matters: set it to 3000 K and dim it in the evening, and it stops being a ceiling light and becomes ambient. In a bedroom, at 2,880 lm, the dimming is not optional.

Chrome trim, acrylic face

Acrylic and aluminium with a chrome trim. The chrome is doing a specific job on a fitting this slim: it puts a hard bright edge around the soft acrylic face, which is what gives a 45 mm disc definition against a white ceiling. Without it the fitting would disappear — and on a 500 mm disc, disappearing is not the same as looking discreet.
