The Elie OY40 is a 400 mm LED oyster ceiling light in chrome trim — 24 W giving 2,160 lm, with switchable 3000 K / 4000 K / 5000 K and TRIAC dimming, sitting just 45 mm off the ceiling.

2,160 lumens — a figure that appeared nowhere on our page. Not in the description, not in the specification table, and not in our record. On an oyster, which exists to light a whole room, the lumen figure is the number that decides the purchase — and it was the one thing missing. It is 2,160 lm at 90 lm/W, which is efficient and enough for a bedroom, a hallway or a modest living room.

45 mm off the ceiling

That is the point of an oyster and this one is at the flat end of the range. 400 mm across and only 45 mm deep — it reads as a disc of light on the ceiling rather than a fitting hanging below it. In a room with a standard 2,400 mm ceiling, or anywhere a door swings close, that 45 mm is what makes it possible at all.

Colour AND dimming, which is a rarer pairing than it sounds

Most tri-colour fittings are not dimmable and most dimmable fittings are fixed in colour. The Elie does both: choose 3000 K warm, 4000 K natural or 5000 K cool at the fitting, then set the level from an ordinary TRIAC leading-edge wall dimmer. In a bedroom that means 5000 K bright for dressing and 3000 K dimmed at night, from one fitting.

Chrome trim on an acrylic diffuser

The body is aluminium with an acrylic diffuser, finished with a chrome trim at the edge. Acrylic diffuses evenly across the whole face, so you get a flat glow rather than visible LEDs. The chrome ring is what stops a plain white disc looking like a builder’s fitting.

Our sources disagree on the material. The datasheet says metal, glass and acrylic; the page said acrylic and aluminium. We publish acrylic and aluminium, which is what the visible product is, and note the glass appears in one source only. Ask us if it matters.

2.4 kg on a 320 mm canopy

Substantial for an oyster, and it is Class I — earth required. A licensed electrician installs it; on this page that requirement is genuine.

Questions
How bright is it?

2,160 lm from 24 W — enough for a bedroom, a hallway or a modest living room. Worth stating plainly because that figure appeared nowhere on our old page: not in the description, not in the specification table, and not in our record.

How far does it hang below the ceiling?

45 mm — the flat end of the oyster range. It reads as a disc of light on the ceiling rather than a fitting hanging below it, which is what makes it work on a standard 2,400 mm ceiling or where a door swings close.

Can I change both the colour and the brightness?

Yes, and that pairing is rarer than it sounds — most tri-colour fittings are not dimmable and most dimmable fittings are fixed in colour. Choose the temperature at the fitting, then set the level from an ordinary TRIAC wall dimmer.

What kind of dimmer does it need?

A TRIAC leading-edge wall dimmer — the common type. No remote, no app.

What is it made of?

Warranties

For all warranty claims please ensure you have your proof of purchase at hand, an invoice from your electrician from the installation and check the faulty product is within the applicable warranty period. Warranty is replacement only.

Lights For You is not responsible for damages caused by unprofessional installation, modified products or manipulated by the customer or by any other person not authorised by the manufacturer; as well as by improper use, manipulation and/or short circuits, apparent signs of improper treatment.

Faulty items: lodge warranty directly with the brand (manufacturer). Keep proof of purchase.

Damaged or Missing Items

Notification of any damages or missing items must be received by Lights For You within seven (7) days of receipt of the product. Please email photos to ashfield@lightsforyou.com.au.

If the product is to be repaired or replaced, it must correspond to the one originally sent by Lights For You and the customer must include the delivery note and/or invoice.

Returns

Change of Mind Returns

  • Customers who wish to return a product due to a change of mind or cancelled order may do so within thirty (30) days of receipt.
  • The customer is responsible for the shipping costs for a change of mind return, irrespective of any free, discounted or any other type of shipping promotion that may have been applicable at the time of your order. This includes any costs you incur for us shipping the product to you in the first place and the cost of shipping the product back to us.

Cancellations

Customers who wish to cancel all or part of an order due to change of mind or incorrectly ordered may do subject to cancelling in within 12 hours, during business hours from time of purchase. Once products have been shipped, you cannot cancel them.
