Dugo Up & Down Wall Pillar Light Black

This is the black Dugo at its largest output: a Ø50 mm aluminium column 280 mm tall, poly powder-coated matt black, throwing 2 × 5 W of LED up and down from one point on the wall.

Why black behaves differently on a wall

The output is identical to the white version, but the result on the wall is not the same thing. A black body disappears against a dark brick, timber or charcoal-rendered surface in daylight, so what you see by day is the wall and by night the two cones of light — which is usually the intent. On a white or light-rendered wall it reads the opposite way: a strong vertical mark, present whether or not it is switched on. Neither is wrong; decide which of those you want before choosing the finish.

Output and colour

Quoted per head: 2 × 530 lm, 2 × 625 lm or 2 × 600 lm across the three settings, so roughly 1,060–1,250 lm in total. 4000K is the brightest at 2 × 625 lm — the peak is the middle setting, not the coolest one. The tri-colour switch is set once at installation, and every fitting on a façade should be set the same way; SDCM <5 keeps them consistent with each other but cannot rescue a mismatched run.

The beam

A 36° cone up and 36° down. That is tight for a wall light, so it draws two defined bars on a flat surface rather than washing it. At 5 W per head the upward beam travels a long way — good on a two-storey façade, wasteful under a low soffit where it simply stops.

Where to put it

Mounting height decides the shape of both cones, not their brightness. Somewhere around eye level or a little above is the usual answer: it gives the upward beam a long run of wall to travel across and keeps the downward cone landing where people walk. Set too high and the upward light spills past the top of the surface; set too low and both cones pool close to the fitting and the effect collapses. On a pillar, centring it on the face matters more than lining it up with a door head or a window.

Wiring, rating and installation

It takes 240 V directly, with no driver to conceal, and is Protection Class 1, so an earth connection is required at the fitting. Havit specifies it as not dimmable. Ratings are IP65 and IK08, with a clear glass lens, CRI >80, UGR <25 and >30,000 hrs expectancy. The matching backing plate and stainless grub screws are supplied, and the plate is the drilling template for the Ø4.8 mm fixings. Havit rates it indoor or outdoor, wall mounting only — not in-ground, not submerged. Warranty is 3 years replacement. Coastal siting — Havit’s condition

Havit’s installation instructions for this fitting state that aluminium fittings should not be installed within 5 km of any salt water environment. That is a condition on where the fitting may go, and it sits beside the IP rating rather than inside it: a fitting can be rated for direct rain and still fall outside this rule, because the issue is salt carried in the air rather than water landing on the surface.
