Domus SUNSET-Rd-300 25W LED Sensor Oyster / TRIO

The Domus SUNSET-300-RND-SEN is a surface-mounted LED oyster with a microwave sensor — 300 mm, 25 W, 2,500–2,650 lumens, IP54, IK10, Class II, switchable 3000/4000/5700 K.

⭐ Identical to the emergency version, minus the emergency

• ⭐ Same 25 W, same 2,500 to 2,650 lumens, same IP54, same IK10, same Class II, same microwave sensor with the same adjustable detection area and standby periods.
• ⭐⭐ SO THE CHOICE BETWEEN THEM IS NOT A LIGHTING DECISION AT ALL — IT IS A COMPLIANCE ONE. ⭐ Where the building requires emergency lighting at that position, take the emergency version; where it does not, this one does everything else identically.
• ⭐ THAT MAKES MIXING THEM STRAIGHTFORWARD AND SENSIBLE. ⭐ A corridor typically needs emergency luminaires at specified intervals, not at every position — so a run can alternate between the two versions and look completely uniform, because they are the same fitting.
• ⭐ Tell us the emergency spacing your certifier requires and we will split the order between the two versions. ⭐ Buying every position as an emergency fitting is the simplest order and usually an expensive one.

⭐ The sensor, and what to set it to

• ⭐ Microwave rather than PIR: unaffected by ambient temperature, detects through thin materials, and more sensitive to small movement. ⭐ In a corridor that combination is right — it will hold on for someone standing still, where a PIR often will not.
• ⭐ DETECTION AREA is adjustable at 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%. ⭐⭐ REDUCE IT IF THE FITTING TRIGGERS FROM AN ADJACENT SPACE — ⭐ microwave passes through plasterboard, so a corridor fitting near an apartment door can see movement inside the apartment. ⭐ That is the single most common complaint with microwave sensors and it is a setting, not a fault.
• ⭐ STANDBY PERIOD is 0 s, 1 min or 10 min. ⭐ In a stairwell, 10 minutes is usually right — people move slowly and a light that drops out mid-flight is worse than one that runs a little longer. ⭐ In a store room, 1 minute is enough.
• ⭐ A daylight threshold is also published, ⭐ so the fitting can be stopped from triggering during the day in a corridor with a window.

⭐ IK10 in a common area is the specification that survives

⭐ IK10 is the highest impact rating in common use — a 20 joule impact, roughly a 5 kg mass dropped 400 mm. ⭐⭐ IN AN APARTMENT CORRIDOR, A CAR PARK OR A SCHOOL, FITTINGS ARE HIT BY FURNITURE, LADDERS AND SPORTS EQUIPMENT ROUTINELY. ⭐ A polycarbonate IK10 body is what stops a common area needing a fitting replaced every few months, and on a strata building the replacement labour costs more than the fitting every time.

⭐ Class II — no earth required

⭐ Double insulated, so it installs where there is no earth at the fitting. ⭐ ON A REFIT OF AN OLDER COMMON AREA THAT IS OFTEN THE DECIDING PROPERTY — ⭐ a Class I metal fitting cannot legally go there without rewiring the circuit, and rewiring a strata common area is a project rather than a maintenance job. ⭐ The polycarbonate body is a deliberate engineering choice, not a cost one.

⛔ Dimmable by remote only, and the remote matters

⭐ The sheet says dimmable with remote control only. ⚠ It cannot be dimmed from a wall dimmer, so a scheme assuming a dimmer circuit will not work. ⭐⭐ AND ON A COMMON AREA THE REMOTE BECOMES BUILDING EQUIPMENT. ⭐ Sensor settings, standby period and dim level all live in it, so if it is lost the fittings keep their last settings and become unadjustable. ⭐ Ask us about the remote when you order, and make sure the building manager knows it exists.

⭐ TRIO switching across three colour temperatures

⭐ 3000, 4000 and 5700 K, selected at installation. ⭐ IN A COMMON AREA, 4000 K IS USUALLY THE RIGHT ANSWER — ⭐ warm enough not to feel institutional, cool enough to read as clean and to give reasonable camera clarity if there is CCTV. ⚠ Set every fitting in a corridor to the same temperature and record it, ⭐ because a replacement fitting years later defaulting to a different setting is exactly how a uniform run stops being uniform.
