Domus SUNSET-RD-300 25W Emergency LED Oyster / TRIO

The Domus SUNSET-300-RD-EM-SEN is a surface-mounted LED oyster with emergency and sensor functions — 300 mm, 25 W, 2,500–2,650 lumens, IP54, IK10, Class II, switchable 3000/4000/5700 K.

⭐⭐ It replaces three fittings with one

• ⭐ A typical apartment corridor or stairwell needs three things: general light, some form of occupancy control so it is not lit all night at full output, and an emergency luminaire that works when the power fails.
• ⭐⭐ CONVENTIONALLY THAT IS TWO OR THREE SEPARATE FITTINGS ON THE CEILING. ⭐ This is one.
• ⭐ THE SAVING IS NOT MAINLY THE FITTINGS. ⭐ It is the ceiling penetrations, the cabling, the commissioning and — for the life of the building — the emergency testing regime, which is per fitting. ⭐ On a building with forty common-area positions, halving the fitting count halves the recurring test burden.
• ⚠ THE COUNTER-ARGUMENT IS SINGLE-POINT FAILURE. ⭐ When one fitting does three jobs, a failure takes all three. ⭐ In a stairwell that is a consideration worth weighing rather than dismissing.

⭐ Self-testing, which is the feature that pays for itself

• ⭐ The sheet states the products are all self test and fully compliant to AS/NZS 2293.3.
• ⭐⭐ EMERGENCY LIGHTING MUST BE DISCHARGE-TESTED PERIODICALLY UNDER AS2293.2, AND THAT IS AN OWNER OBLIGATION FOR THE LIFE OF THE BUILDING. ⭐ Done manually it means someone visiting every fitting, triggering it, and recording the result.
• ⭐ A SELF-TESTING FITTING RUNS ITS OWN DISCHARGE CYCLE AND REPORTS THE RESULT. ⭐ The labour saving across a building over ten years dwarfs the price difference at purchase.
• ⭐ The sheet describes a test function: press Test and the lamp turns off after two seconds, retaining its previous parameters when it comes back on. ⭐ Confirm the reporting method with us — whether it is a local indicator or something addressable changes how the compliance record is kept.

⭐ A microwave sensor, and why that is different from PIR

• ⭐ The sensor is microwave, not infrared. ⭐ Microwave sensors detect motion by reflecting a signal off moving objects rather than by sensing body heat.
• ⭐⭐ THREE PRACTICAL DIFFERENCES FOLLOW:
  • ⭐ They are unaffected by ambient temperature — ⭐ where a PIR sensor's range falls in a warm room because the thermal contrast drops.
  • ⭐ They detect through thin materials, ⭐ which is useful behind a diffuser and a nuisance if they see through a wall into an adjacent space.
  • ⭐ They are generally more sensitive to small movements — ⭐ better for someone standing still in a corridor, and more prone to triggering on things you did not intend.
• ⭐ Detection area is adjustable at 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% — ⭐ which is the setting that solves the through-wall problem. ⭐ Stand-by period is selectable at 0 s, 1 min or 10 min.

⭐ IK10 and Class II — two ratings worth reading

• ⭐ IK10 is the highest impact rating in common use — ⭐ a 20 joule impact, roughly a 5 kg mass dropped 400 mm. ⭐ In an apartment stairwell, a car park or a school corridor that is not a luxury; it is what stops a fitting being replaced every time something is carried past it.
• ⭐ Class II means double insulated — no earth required, ⭐ which on a refit of an older common area can be the difference between replacing fittings and rewiring a circuit.
• ⭐ IP54 covers damp locations and coastal air — ⭐ the dust half of that rating is what protects it near the sea.

⛔ Dimmable with a remote only

⭐ The sheet is specific: dimmable with remote control only. ⭐⭐ THAT IS A CONSTRAINT WORTH CATCHING EARLY. ⭐ It cannot be dimmed from a wall dimmer, so a scheme that assumes a dimmer circuit will not work. ⭐ And the remote becomes a piece of building equipment that has to be kept — on a strata common area, that means someone must own it. ⭐ Ask us about the remote when you order the fittings.
